No apothecaries? That seems a bit harsh.

Hi Dave

Are there any nice places to eat out in Reading?

Would be good for someone too organise a Spiky Social! like the socials see at lots of other tourneys. Last time I went to Spiky everyone kind of went home at the end of Saturday :(

Not sure if I can come to Spiky this year but something like this might swing it for me!

That's a normal Spiky rule iirc.

I guess banning apothecaries is daft but mostly irrelevant. Kind of like banning Morg N Thorg.

I've seen much worse rules :)

It is in no way irrelevant. Plenty of coaches/races include an Apo as standard practice. Amazons, Dwarfs, Humans, all Elves etc. No teams include Morg as standard practice. Some teams cannot field a sensible 12 man roster but can just about squeeze in an Apo.

1. If you don't like a ruleset, don't attend.
2. If you feel team x is handicapped by not having a apo, take team y.
3. No Apo has been a rule from 2002 (if my old pdf is correct) - I'd imagine if people had complained about it they'd either have changed it or stopped running it for lack of attendence. I'm guessing it's the oldest UK indie tourney means most people don't give a damn.
4. Variety is good. The tournament scene would be boring if all tourneys were TV100/110 with all the same rules (imo).
5. Dwarfs won it last year (two in the top 4 iirc). Others are Lizzies (2), Skaven and wood Elves.

Agreed, but an apothecary is part of the roster. People can take one even when there are no inducements and/or stars allowed. A better comparison would be not allowing re-rolls. It would make it different, but would it be better?

I'd imagine that geographical location, cost and timing of an event are more important factors. Dave actually asked for people's opinion, so you're mad to knock Joe for trying to have some input. (Is it still too soon after seeing 4 in-a-row and number 19 vanish?)

With the results of my rerolls normally, I might do better at a no reroll tourney. ;)

I find feedback like "s'dumb" mad. Why hsn't Joe said something before? He's attended 3 Spikys, and as far as I can see, they all had the "no-apo" rule.

And no, not still bothered by the loss of the title - Chelski could afford to buy the refs (that off-side goal at OT), we couldn't 'cos of the Glazers saddling us with huge debts. If/when the Red Knights take over, we can start bribing the refs again.

I looked at possible dates for it to be moved at the weekend and sent dave a messages regarding this and perhaps moving it to the 13th 14th of november.

I also suggested some changes to the rules, so we might see some changes. Dave has been very receptive to changing the tournament for the greater good, feel free to suggest anything and perhaps he will take it into account.

As darkson said, the no apoth thing has been the case at all the previous 8 spikeys. As a noob on the tourny scene Joe I don't think you can say things are standard or not ;p

Apoths have far more tactical use now than before, if anything I would say there is more of an argument to disallow apoths, though personally I would allow them. Your own tournament joe really affected dwarfs and amazons by other rules you implemented, though I really liked that far more races were "viable" due to the changes.

Swings and roundabouts, I'm hoping far more tournaments make tiered skills amounts per race. Going to get a bit off topic if I carry on in here though and that's planned for an article for the NAF site instead ;]

Either way, I'm likely to be there and I'll enjoy it like nearly every other tournament I've been too!

What's wrong with October? Tbh, if it get's moved to Novemeber, neither myself nor Moodygit will be able to attend (to close to Xmas work-wise), and that might mean none of the Andover lads attend (we normally share the driving duty).

Cause the eurobowl is the weekend after and anyone going to that (or the open side event) is far less likely to attend. The bunker bowl is also the weekend after too.

The 2nd 3rd october could perhaps work as well, there is nothing right at the end of september by the looks of it. Depends when the hall is free. Dave may decide not to move it at all. If more coaches offer up when would be a good time to go that could help...

As the football season is over in August I will be making this no matter the date as long as it isnt the weekend of Eurobowl. I think I can swing two weekends on the bounce away as I havent done ahrdly any tornis this year.
