Timing? Maybe they should've run it the same weekend as the GT?

Can't make the weekend. Good luck though!

Yes, and I'm very angry they didn't consult me about my personal plans for that weekend either

Not sure why you've taken such exception to one particular part of my view, nor why we're not allowed to express opinions.... :-/

No exception, Geoff. I just wasn't sure about "mutual support". Of course, the tourney would certainly have had more TFF interest if someone on the organising committee been promoting it here. A different weekend might have helped too.

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when they find out, you're a mile away...... and you have their shoes.

Wow....ok.....lets clear some stuff up.

No, I don't think Maelstrom were fully aware of the BB scene, particularly here on TFF. They've just (in the last year) moved their shop to a bigger premises with full gaming facilities, bar, etc to create a venue for people to play all kinds of tabletop games, and each weekend, they run different tournaments to cover loads of different games systems. Blood Bowl is just one of them. I offered to promote it here because I was already a member of TFF and thought it could do with a bit of free advertising - I don't work for them or 'owt.

As for timing, well - as I said in the original post, the tournament was originally scheduled to run in January, but fell on the weekend when the country was blanketed with snow and had to be cancelled. I'm guessing that the weekend of 8/9 May was one of only a handful of free weekends left in their tournament calendar. Coupled with the lack of awareness of the BB tourney scene, they probably didn't know about the GT the week before.

As for lack of mutual support, well I'm not entirely sure where you're coming from. Like I said, I'm not affiliated with Maelstrom (I just shop there, and play BB there on Thursdays as part of a league that I set up, not Maelstrom), but as the OP I can't help but feel this is directed at me. If it helps, I'm going to the White Isle Star Bowl later in the year - paid for and very much looking forward to it thankyouverymuch.

I run my own business and have wife, kids, and a falling-down house to run - I don't get a lot of spare time, so I'll never be one of those who is able to go to loads of tournaments, but I'll go to as many as I can. I've only just got back into BB after a long break - yeah the cyanide excuse for a game rekindled the fire - and struggled to find anywhere that ran a TT league. I tried FUMBBL, it's not for me, so I decided to start my own league and Maelstrom let me run it from their games hall.

But why does any of that matter? I don't get it. We all want to play Blood Bowl, and they're offering to run a tournament. It's all good, no?

P.S. if that *wasn't* aimed at me, then ignore all that...move along, nothing to see here, etc... :)

I had a look into this after buying stuff of them on ebay and saw that they even do regular Flames of War events. However, it costs to same to get to Mansfield from Edinburgh as it does to get to Poole!

Having just moved up here it would be good to see some old faces come down and make the tournament. Maelstrom is looking like a great venue for gaming in general. Sadly they don't have much experience of Blood Bowl there so know little of the tournament scene we've had running for years. But they are quite pro-active and interested in getting people together for games and tournaments, far more than a certain well known company we all know.

So if wondering about doing this one, I'd say come down and give them the support. Oh, and you can buy me a beer too :)

*ignores and moves along as requested* :-)

You're right. It wasn't aimed at any individual. Just my view point on how the community works better together when tournament organisers get involved with, and support, other tournaments.

Fair enough. Am I right in assuming you won't be going then? :p

Actually, the irony of all this is that I can't make it myself either....(Yeah, I know I said last night I'd probably be at the tourney, lowsman - Mrs.Goblin had a different opinion :-?)

I'd really like to get over to Maelstrom (no, really I would) but for lots of reasons that's not going to be possible. Hopefully some time soon though. Good luck to all and hope to see you (and Laney) at some future events. :-)

I'm not getting the hostility either.

£20 for prizes, venue, two lunches.... sounds good to me. Sounds a whole lot better than the GT. I'd love to be going but its a bit of a journey and it didnt really pop up on my BB awareness radar in time.

Yeah it's a shame more can't get over (mesself included - it's only 10 mins down the road too!). Think there's about 12 people signed up so far and less than 2 days to go.
On the plus side, it lessens the field and increases your chances to nab a trophy
