On the bases. And sometime few times on the mini , don't want to erase a good painting effect with an ugly number :x

I paint...

... about one quarter of the base edge in the color of the position, ala 2nd edition. I then paint the roman numerals on in black....

If I want to change the number or position, I paint over the existing color/number (should only happen on skaven mutations)....

LOL, I allways bust people for that. I can't believe people don't realize #2 or 12 will almost never get MVPs like that (Yea, catchers and gobbos are allways 2 or 12.

Your league actually uses that system?

this is not out of allegiance to that number, but because it is the most common result rolled on 2 d 6!

Not, unfortunately, that we use 2 d 6 for MVPs in Amsterdam, but you never know when the rules may change...

I generally paint the numbers on the figs somewhere. For my Chaos Dwarfs, I painted the Hobgobbo's numbers on the back of the shirt to make them look like prison jump suits. If a model doesn't have an obvious place for a number though, I just leave it off and paint it on the bottom of the base in case an opponent argues that I'm using 2 models as the same player at the same time. I always paint the un-numbered models slightly different from each other so they can easily be picked out.

I've had mixed results with transfers. My Dark Elves have good transfers, but my Dwarves didn't do so well. For all of my minis, I just paint the number on the front of the base.

If I have transfers, I will put them on the shoulder pads. I have tried painting numbers on the minis before, but as my painting skills aren't so good, I just painted them on the back of the base now.

The only problem I see with roman numerals is that some can be a little long and might not fit on the model, but if you do it on the base, I guess it wouldn't matter.

I had an idea for either one of my orc teams or another strenght/kill type of team. If I could either get real good at doing human skulls or get a transfer of them, I thought it would be neat to put a number of skulls on a shoulder pad or helmet to reflect the player's number and perhaps represent how many kills they've made (like the world war II fighter pilots that would put the kills on the outside of the cockpit.). :smoking:

Yeah, I think that would be a cool little addition. I like to do things like that. On my Norse Ogre, I've given him a couple of ancient Viking Rune Tattooes that translate into "kill" and "War". No one really knows what it is, but it's just a little twist to character of the fig. I figure if anybody would be proud and keep count of how many enemies they maim and kill in a sporting contest, it would be deranged blood bowlers. :D Unfortanately for Thorg da Warrior, my aforementioned norse Ogre, I forgot to include the Norse Rune Tattoes for "moron" and "completely incompetent at breaking AV."

I always use the counters, but when I don't have those, I roll a D6 and a D8, if the D6 comes up 4+ I add 8 to the D8 roll, if the D6 roll comes up 1-3, I don't.

It's a good way of doing it, with just the dice from the box...

you know...the team boxes come with water transfers...I use those primarily. for special players (like goblins for my orc team, or mutant rats for my skaven, etc) i use the extra "symbol" transfers that come with it.

I just write the numbers on the base with a thin water proof pen.
