The game is based on miniatures. They are a huge part of the game. They are the reason many people got into the game. I have no problem with house rules regarding their use, but don't show up to a tourney, or league with paperclips and legos for a team if they are using "official" rules.

I love house rules, they allow groups to customize the game to their liking. Unfortunatly we don't all agree on what parts we like and dislike. I like SPPs for fouling, using appropriate minis, and playing to fit the fluff. If I were running the league, SPPs would be awarded for fouling, but I wouldn't expect it at a tourney using the LRB as its rules. You shouldn't show up without a coaching staff either.

Just so we are all on the same page, I don't care one bit if they are GW or not. I'm just saying that there are alot of rules I hate, but I play by them. If my opponant insists on a play clock, why can't someone insist on having figs for everyone? They are both rules like it or not.

We used to play without a clock for many years, but recently some players have been taking excessively long to play their turns. So we ruled that the clock was now in if one of the coaches asked for it, otherwise it was still out by default.

The fact is that this, like everything else, depends on each particular league environment and how the people inside it want the game played.

Everything can be house ruled, but proper painted figs and using the clock are typically the first two things housed ruled out in the average league (and i'm not saying in all leagues or even in most). That has to mean something...

Erm, what reason do you have for saying the average league house rules painted figs and the clock out? I can accept that many get rid of the clock and will tolerate figs that aren't yet painted, but I would expect that many would encourage you to paint your figs eventually. You have every right, Zombie, not to paint them in your league, but I've not really heard of that many that don't.

Really? In our league I think people play more because they enjoy playing the game of Bloodbowl than anything else... There are a couple of people who really get into painting and converting their figures, and it can't be denied that the figures certainly help give the game a look, but seriously - most of the people I know who play aren't mad-keen minitures people, they're just people who like good games.

In the end, to me, that's what it's about. I wouldn't mind if people wanted to play with chess pieces - or bits of paper, if it come to that. Okay, maybe that wouldn't look so great, but you get my point.

Agree with nouge on this one. One of our group is a painter first, gamer 2nd, 2 or 3 of us are gamers who paint and the rest of us are gamers who might paint a bit (and people who've been here a while know which category I come in

)

Read again, i didn't say that. I said that those are the two most common house rules, not that most leagues house rule them.

Oops, yep you're right. I was slightly misunderstand you. Even still, I would have thought that adding extra teams to the canonical ones was more often used rather than saying you don't ever have to use appropriate minis which are (at least eventually) painted.

I hate when there is unpainted minis on the field, but I cant really complain, because in my league of 6 coaches, im the only one having any minis, so they are borrowing my teams..
one thing I hate more, is to look at a "BB" mini, with a bolter or a jetpack.

Yes, I would prefer to have all teams in a league to be painted, they look much better than when they aren't painted. Friendly encouragemnt is needed to get those who don't like to paint to try to paint. I know I didn't like painting much when I started, but the more you do, the better you get and the more you like it.

It's true that painted figures look better. That should be encouragement enough. No need to punish those who don't care about minis (90% of coaches in my league) with your "encouraging" (really punishing) rules.
