I have seen the DS version and it is TERRIBLE
I just got a look at the DS version of the Cyanide game. It doesn't even have blitz mode. It has the same unexplainable short list of inducements (rerolls bribes and wandering apoth only).
The graphics make my eyes bleed. They chose to have really murky and bad isometric view of the field that you cannot rotate.
WHY WAS IT NOT ICONS AND FROM ABOVE.
You have to use the stylus to control what is happening and it was PAINFUL.
arg.

I totally agree. I played it, or tried to play it that is, and it is horrible looking and playing. The PSP version, on the other hand, is pretty good. It took a few minutes to get used to the interface, but it is not bad. The only issue is I sometimes missed standing up a guy because I didn't see him on the ground. Then I found you can use the bumper buttons on top to scroll through your players that have not yet taken an action. Overall, not bad. The AI, however, is not that great. They will always spend a turn or two trying to complete a cage instead of throwing to a wide open receiver sometimes. Oh well. At least I get to play my favorite game on the go now.

There are no star players at all and it's also missing fanatics and bombardiers for goblins.
The perspective is a pain in the ass to deal with, too and you can't change it. Some times larger players will obscure smaller ones. It can be difficult to position players correctly when there's a big mosh pit on the field. It's easy to go through a tackle zone that you didn't know was there.
Another thing is that when you click on something, the screen moves who you clicked on, which is annoying because you have to wait for the screen to move before you click on it again to open the options. It's really easy to accidentally make someone move or accidentally do a Go For It when you don't mean to.
As for the AI, I've seen the AI do some good plays once in a while, such as passing to a guy who then hands off to another guy that runs in and scores, but most of the time, it just cages no matter what the team.
It's still great for teaching a newbie like me how to play the game, though. The core game play is there. I've learned a lot playing it. You can find the game online if you know where to look, so if you want to get a friend into the game, it's a good option for teaching them how to play.

I played it at the press day, and it was ok imo - I wasn't expecting overly brilliant graphics.
Admittedly, I didn't play for to long, so didn't get to try all the modes, but it was BB.

From the sounds of it the PSP version I have is marginally better. Controls are done with the d-pad. Full viewpoint tilt/rotate is set to the analog control stick. The graphics are still terrible, and its classic mode only, but it kind of works.
My biggest peeve with it is that when setting up to receive, you cant see the opponents positioning. You need to switch back and forth from field view, to kickoff/setup screen to get your positioning right. Its fiddly and annoying.

If it is the only version you play, you will probably enjoy it. If I did not have the PSP version side by side, I probably would not have such a harsh opinion about it. I guess I look at it as the PSP version has issues, and the DS version is even worse. The one good thing about the DS version is the scoreboard shown on the top screen. Very nice, but they probably could have found a better use for the real estate. So I guess the one good thing I have to say about it could have been better too.
