Finals Time

Tonight I play the Grave Robbers in the first round of the BABBL Season IV Final Series. As a division Leader I won the chance to pick my first opponent. I chose the Robbers because they have a less than stellar record. This season they have 3 wins (17.6%) and 14 losses (82.4%) with a TDs for/against average of 0.6/2.2 and Casualty average of 2.6/2.6. Toronian, the Robbers coach, isn't bothered too much by his performance. He plays BB for the pure fun of smashing his opponent to dust... Luckey for me that I killed off one of his Killer Mummies while the Circus Retired the other. For this match up I'll be giving away 760K in inducements.

The Goon Squad has played only one game against Undead, and it was a win against the Robbers.

Undead : Grave Robbers
1 of 1 : 100% win
1-0 TDs : 6-1 Cas : 1-1 Kills

(the average speak for themselves I guess)

I'm confident of a win, and will be playing for one. I usually fight it out for a 1 point win, and try to get SPPs through casualties. This time however, I will only do so if I have a 2 point lead. I'm going to trust my huge number of defensive type skills and let the team show what it can do rather than worry about the grind. One tricky card and I'll be ruined if I'm not careful! It cost me Two games in the lead up to the S2 finals (when I was playing Slann) and in the Quarters I was comfortably eliminated because I tried to stall... I won't let it cost me this time!

Bouf, good luck, but I do not think you really need it. Your team is a lot better than his. Even with wizard, starplayers and other nasty tricks, I do not believe he will beat you. Let's see who you face next. When are you going to play?

I play tonight. (in 7 hours and 33 minutes, to be percice)

The best part is that there are no Star Players and no Mercs in the finals! He's on his own and I should have no trouble with them... "Should"

I'm a little famous in the league for getting myself eliminated in the Finals...

Season I : Finished 2nd overall with Amazons, Lost in the first round to a Chaos team I had beaten three times that same season...
Season II : Finished 5th overall with Slann, Eliminated in the 2nd round mostly because I was trying to stall against Skaven
Season III : Finished 3rd overall with The Goons; Eliminated in the 1st round after picking on Skaven... I just couldn't touch the ball despite Re-Rolls. I was down 0-3 by turn 6. I did manage to fight back to 3-4 by the end.
Season IV : Finished 1st Over all with the Goons. I play the Robbers first, and next up is whoever wins between The Airheads (Ogres) and the Scrappers (Skaven Rookie)

I'm very confident that I'll get to the Semi Finals at worst. That gives me a shot at Bronze... :-?

How about I just try to win eh? The Goons Deserve the Gold!

Well done the Goons!

Looks like it was a comfortable victory and if I've got my maths right, which is a bit doubtful, Biff earned himself another 11 SPP's! Is that Legend status yet?

THUG TANK - Goon Squad Orc Blog - 27 (1/8 Final)

Post by bouf »

"Aaaannnnd... We're off!"

It all started badly... The Robbers had a Wiz, a HotPot, 2x babes, a pair of 100K of cards, and a pair of 50K cards. The game started with me receiving in the rain and the hotpot stealing 2 of my re-rolls. The kick was a riot and we both lost a turn as the excited fans stormed the green. Biff embarrassingly double skulled and burnt 50% of my remaining RRs in the opening moments of the first drive, and before my turn ended Toronian caught me on an illegal procedure. So I had the whole half to go without any fall back...

No progress by the goons as the ball was too wet to pick up and there were no knock downs... The Robbers hooked in but other than a few stuns the Goons held.

Then my confidence was shattered... Randy Mongoloid double skulled with the first die roll and my RRs were burnt! Worse, he was badly hurt leaving a hole in my wing and gaps were everywhere thanks to me not standing players up... Randy must have gotten caught up on the excitement and put a little too much pepper on that opening swing.

Luckily (?) the ball was still on the ground with Chuck and Busta protecting. The Robbers defence tried to penetrate the gaps left, but were too slow to capitalize. Chuck made his way up pitch on the right through the gap left by Randy, with Busta and Brick protecting and Biff leading the way.

Biff got into the game with a k/o and a casualty as the Goons drove forward while Jaffa single handedly tied up three zombies in the left. In the middle, the other BoBs were tying up the mummies and the troll refused to stand up (failing three stupid rolls).

The Robbers played a 'Lewd moves' card on me since all my power players were in the right side wide zone and that almost stymied my offence... But for Busta! The extra MA put him just in reach of the endzone, and after blitzing away the coverage, Chuck handed off the ball for a TD in turn 8.

When the 2nd half started, the hotpot failed to distract the Goon Squad and the Robbers started by failing to knock anyone down. A lucky Goons kick sent the ball to the right side line, right at midway. The Robbers fumbled in the rain and Biff blitzed in to apply pressure (crippling another Robber). After an IP by the robbers and a failed block by a mummy, Chuck threw a pass to Biff waiting in the endzone.

Now the Toll on the Robbers Morale was obvious... They were down to a 9 player on pitch presence and had two permanent injuries for their trouble, behind 0-2 on the score board. The kick was a "Get the Ref" and both teams enjoyed a little looser referee presence. Without the man power the Goons knocked the Robbers about and the Undead had no choice but to go for a hopeless dash for the endzone... A quick blitz ended the attempt and the Goons scooped the ball and drove up the middle. Busta was not but a few squared from his 2nd of the night when he was hit with another Lightning bolt... Last time this happened he was niggled! Well that niggle cost him as the bolt shot him straight to the injury bin.

It was all for naught however... The Goons threw some blocks, Fouled out a mummy and Biff got his third of the night for another hat-trick. To finish the game Chuck Plucked up he ball an danced to the endzone where the Crowd went wild! The damage the excited fans was obviously passed on the Goons management as they only took home 30K despite winning with Fame...

At the end of the game Chuck had skilled up to 51 SPPs and rolled 6-4. I really wanted Leader, but went with the +MA. I'm sure I won't regret it. Biff was singled out for the MVP since he crippled two players and grabbed both a Casualty Hat-trick and a TD. He's on 168 SPPs now and almost a legend. Only 4 more casualties and Bingo!

Now on to the Quarter Finals!

Greqat report again Bouf, I've had a quick look over the other results and no shocks yet, except maybe the IronWolves losing. Any idea who your next opponent will be?

Keep the ball rolling!

Get Ready Folks!

This is going to be a biggie! The Airheads have beaten the Sewer Scrappers and advanced to the 1/4 Final round of the BABBL Finals. I was really hoping that the Skaven could win against the Ogres. I knew that the Airheads would hand out a brutal beating and was confident that I could mop up the remains... But oh well, the Ogres advance after an overtime engagement where they lived up to their reputation and Smashed the Skaven flat.

That does present me with a small problem... Now I have to face Ogres, Rife with Mighty Blow and Pile On, and after that I face the Chaos or Chaos Dwarves? The next few games will be brutal and I'm not really liking my chances of having a team left that could win the BABBL Final. The Good news is that I have no fear of losing against the Ogres. The Bad news is that we can only guess the cost to the Goons. My end of season Goal was to win at least 3rd, so I'm still on track to go that far.

Now:
The Air heads finished 9th over all, Counting their win last night they are 7-3-7 (41.2%-17.6%-41.2%). Their Average TDs for/against are 1.2/1.5, Casualties are 4.9/4.0. They're the third best Casualty team this season, behind the Circus and the Goons. (They've inflicted 89 casualties this season to my 90) So needless to say that this could be a bloody affair!

I've played only 1 game against Ogres and it was a Win against the Airheads

Ogres: Airheads
1 of 1 : 100% win
2-0 TDs : 9-3 Cas : 1-1 Kills

They were a lot greener then, and with the Help of Morg, they made a good showing. This time they don't get Morg but they look a lot better/scarier!

Like I said, I suspect that I have a Very High chance to win this one, I'm just a little worried about the cost... :(

I've got faith in the Goons!

Shame you couldn't meet a mangled Skaven team, however with a few failed Bone-head rolls and plenty of Snotlings to beat up on a Win looks good!
Fingers crossed you come out of it pretty unscathed, plus the Carnival & Circus beat each other to a pulp so you can pick on the remains :)

Go Goons!
