In fact, A Chaos cheerleader just came in the mail and I'm pretty certain that it's fake (a ton of flash, exceptionally shallow detail in spots). I wish I'd known this was such a problem, but it probably would have kept me from buying any of the stuff I was after.
The Chaos Cheerleader is still available from GW in a blister pack of three (as are the Goblin and Amazon cheerleaders). I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

Oh, that's a surprise. I didn't pay much for it (less than I would have from GW), and that would explain the light metal and flash. I still think the detailing looks awfully shallow, though.

This guy posts the same selection of out of print Man O war ships every fortnight - they are definitely re-casts, so I would suspect that everythng else is....

Most probably won't notice. Why don't we report him to ebay on a large scale? Potentially get him shut down.

I'm up for this. I've previously bought a 2nd Ed Chaos Chainsaw from him and it is definitely a recast. The metal is different, the detail is less pronounced and the base tab was missing. He even tried to cover his tracks by spraying the mini white.

Yep, that was also the way the US-Squats-seller used ... "...already primed and ready for painting!!!" :pissed:

I've reported as well - noticed that he was selling the same recast Chaos Chainsaw that I bought again!

i hadn't notice, but a friend sent me a link of a dead dwarf piece, and by the pic, i seems to be a recast. i looks like the belly has lost some of its detail, and looks 'dirty'. i hadn't seen who the seller was.

I think those coming out with the "economic" reasons for buying and not buying recasts are coming up against that old familiar wall of ideology that divides those different economic opinions. The first poster presumes that it is the idea of supply and demand and that the free market is taking up the slack (illegally). The second poster rightly disagrees with this, although is arguing from the perspective of Hayek or Friedman (whose ideas I would have thought had been knocked pretty badly by the global recession..?).

Secondly, I think the idea of classifying these recasters as "evil" is taking the free market individualism a little too far; sure, these guys are eating into profits that could (but aren't!) be capitalised on by other, legally sanctioned sellers, but illegality hardly equates with evil. And I think the point that these sellers are selling figures no longer newly available from anywhere else is the operative point in this argument. Selling 2nd Ed recasts is hardly eating into anyones legal profits beyond those of second-hand sellers. Quality is definitely an issue, and this is why many (myself included) would be happy to buy recasts if some kind of advisory was placed within the advert and we could be assured of some kind of quality.

If these sellers were recasting figures that are currently available (such as Hasslefree or Impact! figures) then I can understand how one might be quite rightly pissed off about it. But "evil"? Bit too strong I think. I understand these tenuous links have been made even by bodies such as ELSPA (remember the idea they promoted that buying pirated games funded drug addiction, prostitution and international terrorism?), but they're just bizarre. Similar to the idea that somebody shooting up heroin or lighting up a joint is somehow hurting everybody else by association (beyond the emotional pain, of course), recasting 2nd Ed figures is not eating into the profits of any other company. It is indeed breaking laws on intellectual copyright, and the figures might also be flawed and of low quality, but they really are filling in a gap, and making a tidy profit for themselves. How capitalist is that?

One point though - I have a fairly large collection of genuine 2nd edition minis. These are worth quite a lot of money on eBay. If people are recasting and selling these miniatures (which may then be recycled through eBay, etc), they are increasing supply and so theoretically depressing the value of my legitamately produced and purchased miniatures. This means that the recaster is taking money from me. That's why I feel the right to be annoyed by it.

1) He's producing mini's which he's not allowed to produce.
2) He's advertising them as OOP while he prints them himself
3) He's putting lesser quality on the market.
4) He's not doing it to help people get the miniatures they want, but for profit only.

It might not be evil as in sodomizing baby bunnies, but it is deceitful to anyone looking for those mini's. Compared to GW ripping us off it IS very very evil IMHO. :pissed: :pissed:
