Trust me, they're broken. There's a reason they're not in the game anymore.
Sorry, i don't have any links to show you, but i'm sure others will.
I agree with Zombie that the org BB Mag #1 team is broken. Change Titchy to the rules I listed above and the team in BB Mag #1 is actually very balanced. I would not recommend including it in a league though without the change to Titchy.
My record in a 12 game season with the changed rules 0-32 Snots, 0-4 Troll unable to use rerolls, and the changed Titchy rules was 0 wins 9 Losses 3 Ties.
The problem Galak is that snotlings shouldn't even be balanced. They should be so pathetic that they don't stand a chance even against halflings. As long as they can dodge at 2+, field 4+ big guys or more than 11 players (any of the 3 is too much, and they have all 3 now), this won't be the case.
Snotlings are described everywhere as barely intelligent and not even capable of simple thought processes. They live by mimicing goblins and orcs. They aren't capable of playing the game and if there absolutely must be a snotling team then it should be the most pathetic team in the game.
Well I just finished a game with snotlings using Galak's rules, but with only 4 trolls (thought 6 was a bit much). The new titchy rules work quite well to keep the snots in check. Before, it didn't matter how many CAS they took, they had so many reserves, they could always swarm oppositon. Plus the fact that they don't give a -1 to players dodging into TZ and the 2 range throwing penalty really make them quite bad. Played orcs and lost 1-0, should have been 2-0 but he had some bad luck on the dice rolls. He had to whittle my team down a bit, which he did quite well (+2 on inj roll helps in that respect) getting 10 CAS for and none against, which included a BH troll who didn't regen.
Overall, I think the new titchy rules and limiting the snots to 16 slots on the roster really helps bring them down to the level (or lower) of the stunty teams. I think these rules are the way to go IF (which is a big if) GW ever makes a snotling team offical (or even experimental) again.
I know this would break a simple principle, but wouldn't it be more logic to not award any SPP:s for snotling casualities? I mean, they're neither giving experience nor glory...
In an open league, there could be a problem with all the coaches wanting to play the snotling team to get those 20 SPP:s for casualities... the 5 TD:s - and the fun - should be enough of a reward!
Uh MikeX ... the 4 Trolls usually make it so that most teams I've seen don't line up to take on the Snotling team. Those boys can really lay a hurt to your team ... often resulting in you leaving with a lower TR than you came in with ... just something to think about.
Having 0-6 Trolls on their roster is really wrong, especially when no other team in Blood Bowl has big guys on their roster. I agree with Zombie, snotlings are supposed to damn awful at Blood Bowl. Thats why the Halfling Moot league has one snotling team, so every Halfling team can win at least one game. What does that tell you!!!
Don't try and balance the game so snotlings can compete. They aren't supposed to be able to. If any coach wants to play a snotling team bad enough they should resign themselves to a season of getting beat.
Their roster should be 0-16 snotlings, 0-4 goblins with the option of taking up to 2 big guy trolls. Goblins might relish the opportunity to play on a team where they are considered tuff.
Put the roster back to 0-4 Trolls for Season 3 after further thought. There is going to be a Snotling team in my league next season .... we'll see how it does.
Da Xpendablzz are just two days away from their opening game of the local (Exeter, UK) 2003 season and I have to say that I am completely stunned by all this talk of Snotlings being too good.
Maybe it's an "experienced coach" thing? I have to admit they are probably not the best choice for learning the game - I got slaughtered in all of my games during their first season - but I really wanted to do the Snotling cheerleader conversions...
The only time I ever looked like maybe getting even a Draw... one of the Trollz ate the ball carrier rather than chucking him into the end-zone for the crucial point.
They are easily the most entertaining team in the league and it means that none of the "serious" players ever have to risk their fragile little egos by being bottom of the table.
Then it must be the coach. I'm sorry, but everywhere else they played, snotlings finished over .500 and often won the championship. They really are way too good.
They can move anywhere, lend assists anywhere, overwhelm you with numbers, and fight as hell with the 4 trolls.
Since most reports we got at BBC back in 4th ed days when snotlings were official were that the team was way overpowered and winning everything, it's a lot more than two places and enough to draw a trend.
I'm talking about the version found in a BB compendium of course, not Galak's version.
