Snotling Team - Should I play or Should I not?

Hi,

I'm wondering if I should start playing a Snotling team in a league starting in 2003. I have never played Blood Bowl before, but I have read the rules and watched my friends play a lot. I have also played some training games. The reason I ask is that I want to hear about your experience with the Snotling team (and what sort of rules you where playing). I know the Snotling team is not that good, but the reason I want to play them is that I think they look so cool.

In our league we think that it's important that every team has a fair chance to win. If we decide to have Snotlings in the league we would have to adjust the rules for them to make them better...

Our current rule suggestion for snotling:

If it's your first time take something simple like Orcs or Humans (they're in the box set for a reason). If you take Snots prepare to be buggered by your nearest and dearest.

They may look and sound like fun but when you loose all your games and your players you'll start to get fedup. Especially if you're stuck with them for a season.

Huh, no. One of the reasons why snotlings aren't official anymore is that in every incarnation we've seen so far, they were way overpowered. If you want something fair, you'll have to make them worse, not better.

And for your first team, you'd be better off taking humans, orcs, skaven, amazon or norse. Something simple to teach you all aspects of the game.

The version we are currently testing is:

0-16 Snotlings
0-6 Trolls counting as Big Guys (ie not rerolls)
80k rerolls

Biggest change we made was getting rid of the team being able to have more than 16 players. It now has the same limit as all the other teams but has 6 Big Guys instead.

Titchy change:
still +2 to Dodge and ignore TZs
D3 extra players per a drive (D6/2 round down)
+2 to injury
2 band passing penalty
They do not count give a -1 penalty for doding INTO their TZ

So far the rules seem to work. If you field all 6 Trolls on the pitch, then there is a really good chance that several will go dumb during a turn as there are not enough Snotlings to keep them smart ... so you have to decide on the balance you want. The changes to Titchy and the 0-16 team size remove most of the unbalances that the team has had in the past.

Galak, I kinda like your revised snotling team roster, looks interesting, might try it. The biggest problem with the old snots was that they could always swarm their opponant no matter the CAS (since they could have a roster of up to 32 snots). Reducing the roster size and the number they can sneak onto the pitch looks like it might work. I will give it a try.

Sorry we use D6/2 rounded down for the extra players. As for a Troll teams vs Snotling team ... yeah ... but the old team was 4 Trolls so the extra 2 were added to make up for the larger roster size the old team was allowed.

I agree that it smacks of a Troll team. The other team we used was 0-32 Snotlings and 4 Trolls with the same Titchy rules with a max roster size of 36 but we found the team following every turn without question every turns even if no assists. Reducing to 0-16 and a 16 man roster controls the team a little better.

But I don't argue at all with your Troll team comment Zombie ... a full roster would be 6 Trolls and 10 Snotlings ... (ie we made it sort of like the Lizardman team just one step on ST up on the big guy and one step down on the ball handlers) .. worked for that team ... seems to work for this one so far ... we'll see if it doesn't work I'll go back to the old way we did it.

I may be a little dense, but could you explain the last part of the titchy rules about the -1 dodging into their TZ, shouldn't it be easier to dodge past a snot (+1), or am I reading the sentence the wrong way?

I'm pretty sure he meant you dont suffer a -1 for dodging into a snotling TZ... if a snotling tries to ankle-tap you, step on it .

Bingo. A cage made only of Snotlings would only need a normal Dodge rolls to step into and nail the player in the middle as they have a TZ that you need to dodge out of but doding into their 3 TZs to hit the caged ball handler is just a normal dodge roll.

I play Snotlings in the BB Mag #1 days. A Troll Cage is incredibly unreliable ... it so easy to lose 1 or 2 members of the cage to Bonehead rolls while you advance.

Change the rules for the Snotling so that they don't have TZs mean that when run Snotlings in to fill those holes that they don't really defend the
Ball Carrier very well at all.

The reason I initially thought Snotlings was so bad was all descriptions found when surfing the net for Snotlings. Some cited below:

"The only comment related to snotlings is: Damn they sucks, but they sure are a lot of fun!"

"Using a Snotling team requires a lot of patience, and after your first few games, you may feel like you are fighting a lost cause..."

And looking at the league results I have found on the internet (not that many though), I see Snotling team often at the bottom with stats like 0 wins, lots of losses and some draws and so on. So I'm a little surprised you say they are so good. But if they are that good then I should have a more decent chance to win and that convinces me even more I should go for Snotlings

Nice if someone could point me to some old league results, where Snotlings where present. And also if someone has a Snotling Cockerel on the internett it would be nice to look at it.

Galak: I understand you (and your friend Norse?) have played Snotlings a lot. If you could point me to some websites with results and so on from previous leagues I would be grateful.

Last time i played snotlings, i have a record over .500.

Snots even won a big international tournament about one or two years ago.

Trust me, they're broken. There's a reason they're not in the game anymore.
