That's because you know how hard it is for a rich man to get "home".

Oh wait, you've had a hair cut.

A lot of BB stuff is going for silly money nowadays it would appear.

However, for those of us that are looking for genuine BB models do you have any advice on how to actually tell if a model is a re-cast?

If I am going to bid on an item I want it to be genuine. Not that I would pay those sort of prices in any case.

What I was told in another thread, is just look at the sellers history. If they've sold a bunch of the same model (esp star players) then it's a fake. Apparently Hoomin tried to start a thread naming and shaming ebay re-casters, but no-one bothered then.

With me, the seller was nice enough to re-fund my £10. With the £64 guy, I'm not so sure.

If there is alot of the same model time and again, that is hard to find, then it is a good chance that it is a remold.

Also, if there are alot of hard to get minis that are undercoated and at a cheaper price that you would expect, may be a remold - really hard to judge on this one as many are legit.

I tend to think that alot of the awesome painted minis coming out of south America may be remolds as well due to the low price they sell them for - one would think that it would be double the price of the purchase of a new team, when in fact their minis sometimes are not much more.

Then again, if it is a good recast, and you need the mini, you are only ever going to make the one purchase, and then you do not need to scour the net again for it. Balances out IMO.

WTF!!!

I wouldn't pay that much for a regular Zara, let alone one that has been recast. I feel sorry for that bidder.

I can't tell for sure but I think one of my last 2nd edition elf purchases might be a recast. After thinking about it, I realized I did not care one way or other. Now I would not purposely by a recast, but I don't think I will lose any sleep worrying about the one I have.

Is it the quality of the figure or the stealing aspect of recasting that bothers most of you?

Ethically it should not matter since theft is theft, but it probably would bother me if it was an Imact model being recast vs a fig no longer in production.

Its the theft.

Recasting is a 3 way crime.

1) If the figure is still in production it steals sales away from that company.

2) If the figure is no longer in production it steals money away from the folks that are lucky to now have a collectible.

3) Since recasts are always worse in qualtity (there is no way to avoid this). It creates a mental inaccurate image for those that purchase the figure of the quality that the company that made the real miniature.

====

One of my very good friends used to have a banner on his store website that said Death to Recasters. While I believe that to be a bit too far .... I definitely would have no problems wishing prison sentences on them.

I't's safe to say that there is enough demand amongst the BB community for GW to reprint limited runs of the BB greats...

If only we could get them to listen!

I'd happily pay premium price for "Collectors Edition" 2nd ed teams or stars for example! Imagine if GW were to do some thing so crazy as oursource their molds to a licenced production company!

I'm also sure that Ebay wouldn't want people selling re-casts which are essentially fakes.

Ebay issued a statement recently regarding counterfeit goods. I believe that this was in response to a fine they received as a result of disreputable sellers passing off fake desinger goods.

I don't think I'd pay the silly prices that some of these models are going for. However, I may be tempted if it was a model that was sufficiently rare and that I really wanted. Therefore, If I did pay that sort of money I'd want to know I was getting the genuine article.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
