Custom Dungeonbowl board - first stage

Post by mrbrownesquire »

I have been thinking about this project on and off for a while now but have had other stuff to finish. I was thinking of 8 individual A3 sized boards that you could use to make a combination of board set-ups. Here are 8 rough board images. They are actually to scale, the number of suares is all you can fit on an A3 sheet:
(Grey - Floor, White - Border, Blue - connecting passage, Thick line - wall)

Depending what size game you want decides how many tiles you use. I have put together som sample layouts:

Now I have not played Dungeonbowl for a long time, would these boards work, is there too much/little space? Any criticism is welcome if I am to move this project forward in any way.

maybe just personal taste, but I would prefer the walls to be black or very dark grey.. that way the doorways could be white...

in anycase, I think this is a great idea.. especially if you can find a printer who will print directly onto card..

This is a sketchpad version. I want to map a layout before I start work on a full graphics funky looking board. I don't want to spend ages doing up a nice but badly-laid-out board. I just want critique on the layout at this stage.

Looks good to me, but of course the proof would be in the playing. I do know that the Warhammer Quest tiles feel a bit too cramped with all those 2 wide corridors, and these seem an improvement on that. :)

My other comment would be that each board is roughly as big as half a BB pitch. I doubt a game played over all 8 pitches combined would work - too much room to cover.

This looks like a great idea but as said before you would need a large area to play. You would have to take over the whole of the dining table :)

Looks great. Hope you can do it.

Aside from 8 A3 boards being potentially too big to play a pick up game on, the concept is nicely done. The layouts look good to me, fairly spacious which still allows movement instead of completely closed bottlenecks, so that's good. Plenty of space to bounce balls off the walls too, as well as traps... looks absolutely fine.

Still, smaller boards may make it easier to print.

I'll have to see if I can dig out my old set, but wasn't the original DB 8 "boards" of approx A4?

It was 4 boards of A4 size.

All 8 A3 boards might be a bit much, but you don't have to use them all. Or you can play with 8 teams.

OK, maybe this is the wrong place to ask.

I am a rookie on dungeon bowl so how does this work.

Is this bloodbowl in the dungeons? Is this team vs team? One team scores in the blue zone and the other in the red zone? Same rules?

If this is just bloodbowl in the dungeons some funny situations look to be certain. A elf catcher running around in the dungeons "chased" by some slow dwarfs who never can catch him.

Short to ask : How do you play this because it looks like fun!!

Maybe eight tiles is too many for a small game, but then you don't need to use them all. I was also going some extras such as teleports, chests, pits, etc. I also thought about doing extra end-zones that can be placed on the tiles to add extra players.

After reading the updated rules for DB (LRB 5) it says that an average game would have about 280-300 squares in it. This would would be about 4 tiles i think. So you don't need to use all the tiles but i think it would be great if you did. Chest and traps etc would be great as well. What sort of a time scale are you looking at to pull this project off. Could i get one for Christmas. :D
