If I had the choice between fluffy and fun-to-play I'd go with fun-to-play every time, thanks... :-?

Drop an Amazon's armour once and you may as well just retire her...she's going to die next game anyway. While a Dwarf or Orc could drop armour twice and still be in decent fighting condition...not as 'ard as before, but passable.
I wouldn't drop that Blodge/Guard/Leap amazon blitzer just because she dropped to AV 6... :) and in either way, it's better than forced retirement.

It would, however, be a problem if dropping AV would be much more serious for some team than for others. Even though Zombie is right about the statistics, this could be a problem. Maybe a result like "Roll 2d6, and decrease your AV by one if the result is lower than your current AV." could solve it?

On the other hand, a result like that wouldn't be very inituitive. First you have bad luck and have to roll for injury, and then all of a sudden you didn't get any negative modifiers after all. Hmm.

Another try: "Decrease you AV by one. Roll 3d6, and if the result is lower than your new AV, decrease it by one more point."

The idea is very good but it's another die roll.

Simplicity is one of the best bits of BB IMHO Perhaps this idea could be incorporated somewhere while leaving out the extra die roll.
