Orcs need help v Khemri
I'm playing in my first league and have an upcoming match against a very good Khemri player.
My team is 1 Troll, 3 Gobbos, 4 Linemen, 1 Thrower, 2 Blitzer and 2 BOB. None of them have extra skills although a few are close.
He has available 3 Mummies, 1 Thro Ra, 2 Blitz Ra and 5 Skellies. His other Thro Ra will be missing the match.
I've played a practice game with him and was handed my entrails on a plate. I was rather unlucky to lose the Troll and both BOBs. Those Mummies can outbash my Ladz.
How do you more experienced coaches handle Khemri? any advice regarding set up and plays are welcome.

Hey Dutty,
Firstly and truthely the best advice I can give you (due to lack of orc and khemri experience)...
Is to ask is the Khemri player using the new amended 'toned down' Khemri team recently released here?

#1 Feed the mummies line orcs.
#2 Try to place the line orcs so the mummies get detached from the rest of the team
#3 beat up everyone else
What that does is get the mummies hitting your least valuable, equally toughest players.
If you manage to do that (or largely manage to that) your superior quality on the remaining match ups should give you a win without too much blood.
Whilst your best players are hitting his soft skeletons and positionals. With only 11 players for him you ought to be able to win the numbers game.

In the beginning of the game, use your BOB against his skeletons. You should be able to get several of them off the pitch. After you get him down a couple of players you should get the chance to use one of your BOB to knock down a mummy. That leaves the mummy with only the ability to get up the next turn. You won't be able to do that every play, but do it often enough to make it worth while. Pound on the mummies with your troll. If you set it up right, you could get 2 out of three mummies down a turn.
He only has 2 agility. Attack the ball with your blitzers and gobbos. Use the blitzers to clear a path to the ball and steal it with the gobbos. They've got stunty, they can get in and out without a lot of trouble.
Keep pressure on the ball the entire game. Every time you kick off try to get your blitzers and goblins into his backfield. Play the game as much as possible in his backfield. Crowd his Thro-Ra. Get into fist fights over the ball. You have better armour. You'll win.

I think Doubleskulls has it right.
But I would echo whitetigers point about flooding the ball with Goblins. Khemri don't want to be making AG rolls. Any tackle zones on the ball or the guy meant to be picking it up are good.

right, Pubbowler, keep the pressure on the ball. He won't be able to pick it up. He normally has to roll a 5 to get the ball. If you put the ball or the ball carrier in a tackle zone, he has to roll a 6. Attack the ball and take it. The point of this whole thing is to score touchdowns. Force him to play in his own backfield. That way when the ball does pop loose, you'll only have 6 or 7 squares to go to score.
And knock the skeletons around a lot. The more players you get him down, the more players you'll have free to attack the ball.

I wasn't thinking of the +1 to pick up the ball, you are correct, PubBowler. But still, the point is valid, he has a 50/50 x 2 chance of dropping the ball. Get your goblins and blitzers in there and put tackle zones on the ball and the ball carrier and he'll need a 5 or 6 to pick up the ball.

Hello all and thanks for all the advice.
I'm happy to say that I played the match last night and managed a 1-0 win. I elected to receive in the first half and scored in turn 6, then managed to prevent any return score.
I set up three linemen as fodder on the LOS and then tried to play round the Mummies as advised. It still got bloody though. He killed one of my gobbos and a Lineman. I used my Apo on the Lineman but he rolled another Dead result. Ouch.
On a positive note, I rolled +1 Str on one of my Linemen and my Thrower now has accurate. I bought another Blitzer and have 50K in the Treasury.
I'm considering purchasing another Lineman but think it's more sensible to save for another Blitzer.

Overall, I'd say excellent result. Shame about the lost players, but at least they were a gobbo and a line and not a thrower or a blitzer. Good on you for the +ST lino. He'll come in handy. I'd save and buy the other blitzer. That extra speed will come in handy as your league progresses and you have to take on this Khemri team again. I'd also seriously think about picking up another BOB as your next purchase after the blizter.
Did you do any damage to him?

I didn't do too much damage unfortunately. I was doing OK at breaking armour but then usually rolling a stun. One of my Gobbos, with assists from a Blitzer and the Troll, caused a casualty on his Thro Ra (actually by Blitzing and not by Fouling) but he promptly regenerated. I was pleased though because this was a key play late in the second half. It knocked the ball loose into three of my players' Tackle Zones so that he had no hope of picking up the ball.
My next purchase will be another Black Orc then I'm going to save for my fourth Blitzer.
I was wondering if I could turn the Str 4 Lineman into a ball carrier. Any thoughts on this?

Most definately turn him into a ball carrier. I think I addressed this in another thread, but you can use him on both offense and defense. Fullback on offense, linebacker on defense. On your next skill for him, I'd give him block, but after that, I'd give him surehands. give him the ball, form a cage with the BOB and other linemen, protect the cage with the blitzers and go down the field 4 squares at a time, beating the crap out of people every step of the way.
I definately agree with your next two buys as another BOB and a blitzer. I think I'd do it in opposite order, but that would also depend on the other teams in your league, how really bash heavy your league is. But, having at least 4 4 ST players in not a bad thing in any case.
