Chulchan Leapers - Slann using Kroot

Post by Geggster »

Just thought I'd post pictures of my Slann team I painted a few weekends ago.

With the Rules Review in mind last year, I started using a slann team in our open league at the ECBBL and quickly decided that with them being so much fun, that I would need to paint up a team pronto.

I saw that some had mentioned that Kroot could be used as models so invested in a box. Sure - their weapon snips are not straightforward at all with all those double-handed guns they carry, but they are fairly basic models and I decided to use the dipping painting method that I had seen in a danish thread (using kroot in particular - albeit with weapons).

Some are not happy with the heads, but I've got to say that if the Kroot don't look a little like amphibians, then I'm a Dutchman.

I used skink models for the catchers - not over happy with that - but can live with it for the time being. And of course, a krox.

2 hours of modelling, 2 hours of painting (just the camo green skin, browns and blacks with a bit of plummage differentation - especially painting four of the models with red plummage to show blitzers). I left the underbelly primer-white and let the dipping do the rest.

Basing and a bit of fine detail later (as well as highlighting the krox scales as the model was tricky to dip and shake properly) and hey presto. I reckon about six hours total effort from sprue to finish.

Galak and myself will colloborate on an article about their skills and so forth, but in the meantime, here are some of the pictures:

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when they find out, you're a mile away...... and you have their shoes.

Very good looking team Geggster!
Congrats!

By the way, is the pitch "home made"?

I am waiting for Impact! to produce some Frogmen before I start a Slann team, but you have done a great job on a fairly difficult team to make. How have the Slann teams performed in League play?

The paint job could have been much better but I was particularly pleased with the time to finished product ratio.

The pitch is the Dutch Open one from a couple of years back.

The team have done very well with 6 wins and 4 draws in the league, but they've had most of those games against gobbos, elves, creepers and vampires so not the best judge. They've just started in the Blackshirt main league so progress there will be much tougher....

Just to be sure, you are aware that you'll likely be waiting several years at a minimum?

@Geggster: great looking team! I'm glad I could help you get the pictures up because -- especially for a 6-hour team -- they deserve to be seen. :)

Very nice team Paul. :P

I like the amphibian style for Slann and the paintjob is also very good (especially in the short time you mentioned)

Do you also have a headcoach or some specific turn or RR markers in mind for the team?

Yep, I know that it will be a while, but I am happy to get the crocs and a CD team before then.

Love 'em.
I think Kroots make for excellent slann substitutes. :D
