A superb tourney guys, so many positives. Geoff and Alex you did a great job.... venue was wonderful, very very good.

Well done Pippy with a great win (6-0-0- record) with Lizards. Also a well done to Stick 2nd with Khemri and Mrs Stick with CD's for third.

Very pleased to make another foreign tourney - (my house to Amsterdam is longer than to Manchester I discovered :P ) but really, putting so many names to faces that I have chatted with over PMs or email etc was really good.

For me.. well goes to show I cant play Undead  but I think 3-3-0 is respectable. And Hack was... well...umm.. interesting. Killed himself twice first go  , but then again was awesome in two games. Thanks to my 6 oppos and every game was good...in fact every game was pretty close thinking about it. All 6 were tight to be fair.

Not convinced the curry was standard fare but I am sure that was a one off so cant wait for Monkey bowl and the "twin crowns" challenge.

First of all, a personal thank you once again from me to all the players who continued to make The Waterbowl a growing success. Seriously, I can't thank you all enough for making it run so smoothly, finishing games on time, laughing and joking through good and ill fortune and for filling out the results slips perfectly. Well, all bar one ;-) 44 players from near and far, a great mixture of old faces and new, and Alex, Paul, Mike and myself look forwards to welcoming you all back next year too - and don't forget to bring a mate! A massive thank you as well to Tritex for supplying both the spot prizes and vouchers for the winners. At a time when people are questioning the support of the game from a commercial side, Tritex has once again shown that he's a "go to" man for anything Blood Bowl (i.e. if you need it, go to him!).

For those of you gagging to know, here is a summary of the results:

@ £10 bet and a Waterbowl Tourney dugout (henceforth the "J&M Award"!) - Tritex and Wightlord for the (thankfully post-lunch! ) entertainment

@ Least Dangerous Coach (least casualties) - Polar Bear with his 16 snotling team and 5 CAS (and 30 against). Hang your heads in shame Gorgoroth and Ginger Ninja as too only did 5 CAS!!!

@ Couldn't Score in a Brothel (least TD scored) - Tritex with his new Chaos Team. Evidently the award only applies to the tabletop 8)

@ Furthest Travelled (from next year renamed "The Gorbad Award") - Gorbad. Notably won in the last 3 years despite the presence of foreign coaches in each year who were born further away but living in UK at the time of attending.

@ Best Painted - Peter Lauth (Lauth81) and his excellent Chaos team (pix to follow)

@ The Dwarven Madam Award (ex-Wooden Spoon) - Tritex. Perhaps Chaos isn't the best choice.......!

@ Best Sunday Comeback - a man normally reknown for his legendary nose bleeds, Jordell Freshbreeze opted for the powergamer routine of early bed on Saturday night and (coincidentally?) jumped a whopping 26 places on Sunday to finish in the top 10. Do we smell a winner? Maybe. Do we smell a Powergamer? Definitely!

@ Most Touchdowns - Despite being 2nd overnight, Valen managed to score an awesome zero (0) points on Sunday and actually decrease his overall Waterbowl score in the process. Despite this he still walked off with the Most TD title with 15, even if he had to trade his pride and dignity in to do so!

@ Most Casualties - After a recent move to one of the rougher parts of Newcastle, it's evidently having some effect on the members of the Stick household. Giving her hubby a run for his (maniacally chainsaw wielding) money, Bunnygirl stove in 25 heads during 6 games, topped only by the Stick-with-poo-on-it with 26. Best Waterbowl Advice - steer clear of any invitations to house warming "bashes" in the near future

@ Stunty Cup Winner - started at last year's Waterbowl as a reward to "bigging up the little guy", the Stunty Cup had 3 Halfling, 4 Goblin, 1 Ogre and 1 All Snotling teams take to the field. Despite some desperate defending at times, Leipziger's "Hot Goblin Action" couldn't hold the lead in the final round and Don Vito's "Trees and Fat Boys" stormed to a winning finish and took the title. Special Mention must go to Polar Bear's 16 Snots who beat Gorbad's Khemri 1-0.... especially as it later turned out Polar Bear's team was 100,000gp UNDER priced (i.e. only TR 100!).

@ Unsung Heroine - Behind every good tournament organiser is a better woman. And in the case of Alex, Paul, Mike and me this year it was the turn of Dwarven Madam to receive this highest of accolades for her behind the scenes work and what was certainly the longest round of applause of the lot. It cannot pass without saying thanks too to Alex's better half who made the arrangements for the venue hire and whom without the Waterbowl this year would not have been as great as it was. Thanks to you both. Security have also asked me to thank you all for being "extremely polite and a pleasure to have - even Jordell"

@ Finally onto the big three. Just one (1!) point seperated 8th place (Ambush3 with 26 points) and 3rd place with 27 points. Indeed many of you may now be cursing not snatching a bonus point from somewhere to have clinched it (little tip for next year there! :D ) but in the end it was Bunnygirl who took this one, pipping Nuffle-was-a-woodelf (also 27 points) to it only by virtue of the tiebreaker. That, and the threat of upping her casualty count by another one....!!!

@ Just one point seperated 3rd from 2nd and Stick-with-poo-on-it. A solid 4-1-1 performance from an increasingly solid player. But he still loves his gimmicks!! :smoking:

@ "The Tallest Man in Bloodbowl" pulled off a series of 6 straight wins to storm to the title, conceding only once on the way there - and that was to a long bombed effort! Congratulations to him for his second Waterbowl win in a row. Asked for what he felt the future held, Pippy claimed that next year we'd be having to rename this award after him! Bold claims they may be, but on this form is there no one out there who can stop him???

Looking forward now to The Monkeybowl in Hartlepool (1st weekend in April) and the inaugral "WaterMonkey Award", it looks like it's going to be a very tightly run affair with at least a dozen coaches all very serious contenders out to prove that The Waterbowl wasn't just a fluke. And for those mid table, a good result could even put you in contention, so all to play for. Remember it's only £12 for those of you who haven't entered yet, so an absolute bargain!

For all you stat-o-philes, full results available via: http://www.enos.ltd.uk/BBFiles.htm

Thanks once again,

Alex, Paul, Mike & Geoff

Had a fantastic weekend again, massive well done to everyone at the organisational end (apart from whoever chose the curry house  )

Also thanks to all my opponants for some cracking nail biters, all but one games came down to the wire in the last turn.

No thanks to 'Vibrating Helmet' Wulf, who kicked back on his first attack in 6 games out of 6. Dropped!

See y'all at the Monkey!

I'd just like to echo Geoff's sentiments and thank all of the coaches who attended and made it such a fun weekend. Geoff was a star, once again forgoing playing (or has he just run out of room in his house for trophies  ) to be sort out the results and the announcements etc. Sterling work was done behind the scenes by Nat (Dwarven Madam), Paul and Mike and a very big thanks due to Sarah for giving up her weekend so the building would be available for us (as well as getting it at a HUGE discount), CD burning/labelling and being amazingly patient throughout the run up to the weekend.

On the playing front, my goblins ('Hot Goblin Action') performed better than they did last year and their revamped roster was a definite improvement.

Game 1 L 1-2 to Nuffle-Was-A-Wood Elf (Orcs)
A tight game this, against an opponent who would finish up at the top end of the tournament. Goblins took a quick early lead, but unsurprisingly found themselves 2-1 on turn 16. The one turner was not to be and Leon claimed the points.

Game 2 D 0-0 with Nethrag (Goblins)
As is the law, I was drawn to play Jonny at a tournament (every tournament we have been to, we have played each other). This was an excellent game with loads of end to end action. Despite the efforts of both teams a TD was not forthcoming as a combination of desperate defending and attacking incompetence ensured the ball was loose a lot of the time.

Game 3 W2-1 against Malki (Goblins)
Another stunty match-up and another top game. Malki is a great bloke and provided stiff opposition. However, my boys were on fire and eventually ran into a 2 score lead on turn 16. Malki's goblins gave him some joy with a one turn consolation at the end.

Game 4 L 2-4 against Barney the Lurker (Humans)
Barney's humans played very well in this game and my goblins were not really up for the fight, burning rerolls at a frankly frightening rate. Barney ran into a 3-0 lead and I was fearing a repeat of the 6-0 I got last year from perkygoth. Thankfully, the little green machines managed to show a bit of fight scoring a nice running TD and then interrupting Barney's plan to get a bonus point for 2 long bombs to score a quick second. At 3-2 down, the HGA were sensing a stiff of an unlikely draw. However, reduced numbers meant that Barney was able to secure the ball and make his way downfield for a fourth.

Game 5 W 2-1 against Northernknight (halflings)
The Stunty hat-trick and more carnage! Not only did we have sweltering heat for the majority of the game, but also had a pitch invasion! My gobs took an early lead, but after having a few guys removed due to the weather, lined up for the second half a few men down. Thnkafully, Pitch Invasion stunned about four of the flings which meant I was able to steal the ball and run in for a second. Lee pulled once back but the draw was out of reach.

Game 6 L 1-3 against Gingerninja (high elves)
These were the opponents I wanted to be playing to try and take the Stunty Cup (HGA were leading after round 5). Things started well though. The ball and chain was fantastic, plastering people all around the pitch and one of my gobs was eventually able to run up field and score on turn 7. This left Sam 2 turns to equalise, but my three remaing diving tacklers were able to stop the elves getting their score. However, nothing was able to stop them second half. The fortune that had definitely been with the goblins in the first half, was handed over to the elves and Sam ran up three tds to secure what was, in the end, a comfortable win. What made this defeat worse was that I could see the other 2 leading contenders for the Stunty Cup in their games. Although sann0638 lost, Don Vito held out for a 1-0 win over Lauth81 (Peter failed a 3+ dodge on turn 16 which would have secured the draw).

Thanks again (and well done Pippy for being the first 2-time winner of the Waterbowl).

Cheers

Leip  :o

Echo all the thanks to those who organised and participated. Had a great time and it was all much appreciated.

Enjoyed all my games, didn't get drawn against any stunties though so that's something to work on for next yr guys.

Took my dwarfs (again...), partly due to not getting my Norse painted in time, partly due to feeling they deserved a run out to repeat their 3rd place last yr and partly because I'm a failed power gamer who really wanted the WaterMonkey helmet!
Apologies to all my opponents if they got bored with the grind. They may (or maybe not) feel better knowing I was sick of the sight of them by the end as well!

As for who I did play:

Sproutman's Nurgle: a tightly fought 1-0 win which involved chasing down the Claw Pestigor to stop him slicing up my team while doing standard cage work. Uneven FA rolls led to a 1st half with no failures and the laws of probability kicking in with a vengeance in the 2nd half, combining with a number of bothdowns led to me needing 4 attempts at pushing away a Rotter with a TZ on my runner.

Pippy's Lizardman: a 2-0 loss (and the start of my 3 lizard match ups) with Bren pushing through a clinical 1st half TD drive and then busting my cage wide open in the 2nd half. No shame in this scoreline but no glory either...

Nippy Longskar: 1-1 draw against an amazing scratch built lizard team (with Jigsaw special feature). After getting lucky on the Krox (pushing him out of bounds on turn 1) it all got very tight, tense and cagey and remained that way. Enjoyed seeing Helmut Wolf doing himself a mischief KOing on the 1st blitz. Practice of this seemed to make perfect.

Dwarven Madam: 2-0 win over the Necormantic. Definitely a match up thats saw the worse of the Dwarf game play. Adequate but not exceptional dice and an inability of the Werewolves to do anything beyond fail dodge rolls (not to mention Wights and go for its) led to a 1st half turnover touchdown and the number of KOs didn't leave enough players later on to allow a come back.

FingerMouse's Dark Elves: 0-0 with dogged defending on both sides led to a tense game. Both teams had an opportunity to score in turn 7 of their drive but had nothing left to do by turn 8.

Barnacles Lizardman: All the practice against lizards over the weekend finally off paid off with a 1-0 win. Tight & tense but more lizards off the pitch made the difference as a Troll Slayer grabbed the ball in turn 7 and headed for the endzone.

3-2-1 in the end. Sure that the Helmut is beyond my reach now, so deadlings are an option for MonkeyBowl but as my powers of self belief knwo no bounds we may be powergaming again!

Great weekend. A well organised event, that ran smoothly in an excellent venue.

I took Chaos with the whole intention of just ignoring the ball and going for casualties, infact the only time I actually scored was because all the halflings were in the KO box and I wanted nore things to hit.

20 casualties not bad, shame it put me dead last but aty least I got some nice chocolate to eat on the retrn home.

Thanks for all the work and effort that went in and all my opponents for some fun games.

A very big thank you for the tournament staff, my sporting opponents and all the others around who made this a very enjoyable weekend. It's always nice to finally put faces to nicknames and have a chat.

It was my first tourney outside Germany and it's one I intend coming back to. I even managed to get away with a prize 8)

My play could have been better, esp game 5 and 6 I made some stupid mistakes, both could have been draws.

And btw., I sat right opposite tritex and wightlord when they went tongue-wrestling ... :o
