Aliens, Predators and Judge Dredd minis

Post by ekwatts »

I was wondering if any of you had any of the above miniatures, and if so, if you had pictures of them? I've been looking into starting up some kind of Aliens boardgame for a while now, but it's almost impossible to find any decent minis to use as Aliens, while not so hard to find Predators or Marines. I recently acquired the Leading Edge Aliens tabletop boardgame rules, though (blast from the past!), but I just can't locate any aliens.

Also, does anyone have any Judge Dredd minis, either the modern Mongoose Publishing ones or the old GW licensed ones? Not to sell me, I'm just interested :D

I think there are some official Aliens miniatures in the pre-painted Horrorclix range. Predators too.

In case you haven't seen them already, Copplestone and Old Crow make Predator lookalikes, the Old Crow ones are available in clear resin, for a cloaking device effect. http://www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/aiinap.htm

I've got a few of the Foundry 2000AD miniatures, including Judge Dredd and Mean Angel, as well as a Mongoose riot judge. This is the only painted one though, I've converted him for Bloodbowl use.

Yeah, I have a bunch of Mongoose stuff, the riot judges and SJS judge as well as quite a few punks and juves.

I've also got a bunch of Copplestone "Alien Hunters" which I bought as soon as they came out, coz I thought that they'd be gone very quickly due to copyright infringement, but it seems the three fingers and single wrist blades just about manage to distract attention away from all of that. The Old Crow miniatures, I didn't realise they were producing them again (I remember when they were made by Ainsty) as I recall the clear resin messed the molds up badly. I guess they've sorted that out, though. They don't look too bad for heavily armoured preds (despite the weaponry looking distinctly un-predator-ish), so I might pick one or two up for use in some Judge vs Pred combat.

As for those Horrorclix figures, they look good. In fact, I think I might buy a few and rebase them properly and then paint them myself. I'll post pics!

Much too small, would that be friekorps minis? I've seen the ERM Aliens, but they're a bit too deformed and wacky for me.

I think I'll give the Horrorclix aliens a go, and try to ignore the bendy plastic they're made out of.

I've also found some decent Marines on the EM4 website.

Copplestone makes some nice marines as well, though they're basically the same as the em-4 ones IIRC.

Have you seen Hasslefree's Ripley and Newt substitutes?

I just bought a set of Horrorclix Aliens today, £11.50. Not a bad price for seven xenomorphs. I'll start removing them from the bases tonight and prime them for painting. I'll take lots of pics to show all y'alls!

"I AM the law."

I know there's an inofficial Judge Dredd roster floating around, but to be honest: Plain silly in a normal BB environment !

But if there were a 40k/Sci-Fi variant of Blood Bowl, I could totally see a "Law Enforcer" team with Judge Dredd like mins. Nice paintjob, btw.

Ok, I've cut the Horrorclix aliens from the click bases and the pillars and re-attached them to closed, round 25mm GW bases. They're ready to be undercoated for my own paintjob. They're really not bad sculpts at all, in all honesty, but the plastic is very floppy, so I've tried to compensate where I could by gluing hands and tails to the bases, as well as gluing pennies into the recesses to try and keep the figures balanced. Here are some pics:

In a desperate last stand, an SJS judge conducting an undercover investigation into bizarre goings on in the undercity is forced to team up with a stranded predator in an attempt to stave off a frenzied assault by several alien warriors!

A size comparison. It all works wonderfully well.

I'm sure this is a crime.

There were official rules for judges in 2nd ed. which is what made me think of doing the conversion. Some would say the normal BB environment is a bit silly and Judge Dredd can be too at times.

Far more likely is the idea of Blood Bowl taking place in the Judge Dredd universe. Punks and juves get their faces changed to Orcs, goblins and so on so they can play a twisted variant of American football...

I'm holding out for Heresy's Hurn mini's to use instead of Preds. From the WIP stuff they look like they're going to kick ass.

I'll have to check those out. The Copplestone minis I'd spotted in a store in 2005 and bought them on the spot. I hadn't picked up a brush since 2000 at that point, painted them all up, then didn't think about miniatures again until this summer.

Anyway, I've repainted the Aliens black with a white drybrush. I just need to paint the bases and I've finished. These things look awesome now.
