Why are people paying so much on Ebay?

Post by BobbyDavro »

I just don't get it. I have bid on a whole bunch of different teams, looking to pick something up reasonably cheaply.... But people just go bidding crazy.

For example:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 1788749925

Someone is actually bidding £17.01 for a box that costs £18.00 to be new from GW. And there are still 4 days left on that auction.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Are there any cheap Blood Bowl teams around? Do I need to go to the "Bring and Buys" at wargames shows to pick up older miniatures?

Well the reason they're going for these sorts of prices is the Boxed Set is no longer available. And you don't get transfers on their own from any of the GW outfits! Thats part of the problem. The transfers aren't important of course but an added extra. And you might think people wouldn't pay for transfers, unfortunately you'ld be wrong. I've seen one lot of transfers for for £8 but then again I've also seen a 'Plastic' Human Team go for £23.00 so you never know who's going to buy what. Its all in the wording and how much you want it I guess. Some people prefer the plastic, others like myself don't.

The boxed sets aren't available? Is that just some of them like the Elves. or is that all the teams?

I bought a chaos boxed team very recently from GW UK Online store, but not the elves, although I have just ordered a new dark elf team boxed set today.

They are still offering all of the boxed sets for sale via the online shop in the UK (I believe), and no mention of supply problems. Is this just the staff being inefficient in updating the site? I can't check at the moment since the UK site seems to be down.

So what is going on then, are they re-releasing everything, is the game being killed off or what? They have only just relaunched the boxed set for £50 a time in the UK.

AFAIK the boxed sets are available in the UK, at least for most of the teams, I certainly bought one recently.

I think one of the reasons for bidding near the original price is that GW charges £4 for postage, most of the teams on ebay i've seen are only going to have around £2.50 added at most for P&P.

At £17 that makes a total saving of £2.50, not much but worth a pint down the pub, not bad when you consider most teams aren't even painted.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

Its GW's own service that has let them down.....it took me 4 months
to get my money refunded, most people in general have had some sort of problem...so I guess people find it easier and more reliable to buy from
E-Bay to avoid hassle...what you see is what you get, not oh! no its out of stock or we are re-ordering it.
Just a personal view :)

So they are actually advertising boxes for sale without making it clear that they aren't in stock?

Ouch, that is pretty lousy customer service if it is the case.

I will add that I didn't have any problems with my last order a couple of weeks ago. As I recall, it arrived fairly quickly.
