A couple of things I do as commish of my league:

1) Each coach pays $5 Canadian as an entry fee, but I allow a rebate to all coaches who complete their schedule AND playoffs. Our league rebates $3 per coach in this manner. The remainder of the money goes to league needs (photocopying, website) since we have a permanent trophy. The current season is the second that I've used this system and so far it's working; not a single forfeit last year!

2) We use what I'd describe as a "semi-fixed" scheduling system. That is, at the start of the season each coach knows exactly who he/she has to play, at whose stadium (none of this wandering minstrels BS, each team has a home). However, the teams do not have to play the season in exact order of games. So for example, while I bracket each group of games, it is up to the coaches (for the most part) to decide who they play in a given session. This also gives us a measure of flexibility if someone doesn't show up. Eventually, though, each coach must face everyone on their list!

I am also considering a full $5 rebate to the champion, and perhaps a $4 rebate to the winner of our secondary trophy (best of the non-playoff teams play a separate competition).

Best of luck to all you newbie commishes!!! :D

Not that I've got anything against the NAF (hell, I'm a member), but what does registering for the NAF have to do with being a league commish?
I happily ran my home league without anything from the NAF.
I was thinking that myself, im currently running a league in leicester and i dont see how the NAF can help?! :?:

Just to let you know, I was currently inspired by another coach who sent me his tweaked version of LRB5 Halfling Scribe, and now i'm working on it again. First i only wanted to make the sheet i got fit for official release, but now i ended up redoing the whole bloody thing again and added lot's of stuff.

This will probably get released around christmas ... i'll let you know when it's done ;)
