Im sorry if i have missed part of the discussion.. but i would just like to put forward the spiky club venue in Reading as a possible alternative to warhammer world... its close to airports..well a train away and its relitivly in-expencive to hire...
The building is huge and im sure we could use more of the rooms..
If you think its viable then let me know and i can find out prices ect..
cheers
Dave

Well...
I had a talk with some european players lately.
here is my feeling about that so called World Cup:
What do you think is a World Cup?
For me...
this is clearly not an Eurobowl with few extra teams...
this is clearly not a Big open tournament
For me World Cup should be THE EVENT !
Team contest (open)
players contest (like eurobowl)
Painting contest
Streetball demonstration
Beachbowl demonstration
and so on..
It Have to be something really different, something big!
Now, concerning the Teams... i hate this idea of single tourny that elect players to create a team. This is how some country do... not all !
And i know this is a failure some some players wants to go in to have a chance... I never saw, in any sport or any game, having a world cup team different of the nationnal team if there is one.
Oups... i forgot..i think that if this project is only annouced... and then.. organised by 2 persons (who ever they are and what ever i respect them) and GW. Without listening or talking about what all people here can say or give advice , telling their feelings .... Then it will turn to nothing more than a Bloodbowl Grand Tournament bis

I have simillar feeling about this...but the biggest deal is make a "open" contest without the best players cause they are gonna play with their national teams and keep it atractive.
Anyway...as you point...the most important thing of the event wouldnt be the tournaments...it must be the EVENT...to meet, almost, everybody of the community in one place in one date...playing, chating, getting drunk together...the competition is not the most important.

I second that earlier said. This should be THE EVENT.
Im already thinking to get another big and ugly Person to make an appearance as Bob Bifford (Big ugly Person) and Jim Johnson (me) and a camera man to make a Cabalvision news coverage of the Event.
I have almost a Script for an Interview with Longshot.

For Uk coaches who don't make the national sides would there be some sort of ticket for the one day of seminars/events or would you have to play in the side tournament to get in?

If you are coming from outside Europe it won't be 3 days, it will mean at least a week away. Most of those I've discussed it with (in Australia) will only go to UK if they can fit in at least one extra week before or after the event, possibly up to 4 weeks away from home (and work).Gumbo wrote:You've got a year to book 3 days off work, seriously....l_dauguet wrote:3 days, 9 games !![]()
So, the only one able to attend are unemployed/students ?
Ah bah, it'd be too expensive for them as well.
Some of us will really need a year's lead time to organise time off and travel and I am concerned that about 6 months after the original announcement we still don't know when its on, what the rules are, or whether it will be worth the effort.

i totally agree with that ! i believe there should be several tournaments.grotuk wrote:I have simillar feeling about this...but the biggest deal is make a "open" contest without the best players cause they are gonna play with their national teams and keep it atractive.
One by team, and one individual which should be open to everybody !
And no link between the 2 of them. Individual should not select the players for the nationnal team. And of course a lot of other tournies like Streetbowl, beachbowl, piss squig, and some great Painting Tournies.
and other and other ideas can be developped.

Only problem is that piss squig is still only in french. The creators keep ingnoring any messages from me about the english rules, and the board layout.Longshot wrote:piss squig

Does this mean to say we are unlikely to see a team Oz at the World Cup? I'm guessing other teams outside Europe may have had similar problems.Bevan wrote:If you are coming from outside Europe it won't be 3 days, it will mean at least a week away. Would be a shame if the World Cup turned out to be just a longer version of Eurobowl with only a few non-European attendees...
