Pass Block (General Skill)
A player with this skill is allowed to move three squares when the opposing coach announces that one of his players is going to pass the ball. This move is made out of sequence, after the range has been measured, but before any interception attempts have been made. However, the move may only be made if it allows the player to move into a position to attempt an interception, or to put the thrower or catcher in his tackle zone. The opposing coach is not allowed to change his mind about passing the ball after the player with this skill has made his move. The special move is free, and in no way affects the player’s ability to move in the following turn. Apart from this, however, the move is made using all of the
normal rules, and the player does have to dodge in order to leave opposing players’ tackle zones.
Does a pass blocker have to move into a position where he puts a TZ on the catcher/thrower or is in a position to make an interception?

P = pass blocker

So in the above example P is eligable to make a pass block move as he can get adjacent to R.

1) Can he move to 4? This move means that he can't end up in a position to effect the pass.

2) Can he move to 1 and then stop - say he used up his dodge roll or even for tactical reasons?

3) Or does he have to keep on moving to 3 until he either makes it or falls over?

I would say you have to try and move into a position to attempt an interception or put a TZ on thrower/catcher. You can't move one then say you dont want to move any more cos you used up your dodge skill! So i would say 3, keep moving till you make it or fall over.

Yes I would agree, if you want to make the pass block move, then you are committed to it and should have to move to get into a tackle zone or an interception square. Its the same as using dauntless, even if you fail you have to carry on and make the block.

I agree with Tramper and Grumbledook. You have to keep on moving, and you can't move to 4...

But I can't see why you want to stop. You don't get a TO for falling down, and it's not that bad, if the player ends up on the ground.
I always try to do everyhthing I can to make an interception, cause there's nothing more fun than the look of your opponents face when you make a INT.

There is room for interpretation otherwise, but the intent of the rule is pretty clear. You know what rolls you'll need before you start so you either attempt the passblock or you don't.

There's an argument that you should be able to make a tactical decision after, say, failing a dodge, but I think you have to waive that in favour of ensuring the skill is played within the spirit of the rule. You're emulating someone "reading" a pass and getting into position, not taking the opportunity to improve field position just cos someone's passing the ball. I say you take the tactical decision to make it happen or not, once you start the move you're committed.

I agree that the intent of the rules is that you have to keep on moving, but it can be argued that the letter of the rules only specifies your eligibility to move, not where you have to move.

As commish there is no way I'd allow this Ian ... PB CLEARLY can only be used to get into position to intercept or putting TZs on the Thrower or Catcher. Any other use of it would be a clear breaking of its purposes. Since you are only allowed to use it if you may get into these position than clearly to me you have to end up in these positions at the end of the PB or fall down trying.

Rules lawyering in the extreme. Anybody trying to gain advantage of less than 100% precise wording when the intent is obvious deserves poking in the eye with a sharp stick!

Sharp stick Penallty roll 10+
Make a unmodifed AG roll when performing a block. If succesfull the opposing player is badly hurt.
