Apothecaries, Ghouls and Undead

Post by silverback_guerilla »

Under current rules, Undead may not hire Apothecaries. This isn't a problem for most Undead players since the Necromancer can perform the same function, and indeed the Necromancer is probably better than a team apothecary.

This leads to some inconsistency and confusion, like "Why can an apothecary work on a Troll, which regenerates, but not a Zombie?" and "Why can't Ghouls regenerate OR use an apothecary?"

The reasons are in the Warhammer fluff - most team members are magically reanimated corpses, and conventional medicine doesn't work. Ghouls are in fact living players, they are degenerate corpse eating cannibals that often hang around with Necromancers. I don't know why, perhaps they enjoy each other's jokes.

What I propose is that a new racial characteristic be created, called "Undead". Undead players may Regenerate if a Necromancer is on the team and is available (i.e. not sent off for arguing a call). They may not use an apothecary. This would apply to Zombies, Skeletons, Wights, Mummies, Vampires and any other player that is "undead" in the Warhammer rules.

Undead teams would be allowed to hire personal apothecaries for its living players (i.e. all of those players that are not Undead) as per the P.A. rules. I think that allowing a regular Apothecary when you might only have one or two living players on the team might be a bit too good, and equivalent to a P.A. for those players, so the cost should be the same as a P.A.

Undead do not require a head coach to regenerate, this was deliberately dropped from LRB so the only special rule that applies is the inability to use an apoth on them.

Nah, I dont want to see apoths on the undead, I really like that sinking feeling when my star ghouls hit the deck and possiably could be finishing their career with no chance of a save

Tell you what it was a pain in the arse at spiky when my ghouls got killed, they seem to attract inj rolls of 12, i had to suffer like every other coach that was there. Mind you my zombies didn't seem to get the knack of regenerating, thankfully the mummies did ;]

IMHO, the fact you can't hire an apothicary when coaching an undead team was a good thing, keping some doubts about the matches that your ghouls would play... The fact they are the only fast players on this roster, but alos the only without regenerate, make them as target.

THat's why I can't bear the recent rules wiht vampire team. Teams should become a little bit more balanced with thralls without regenerate but without possibility to use apo.
