I think WFB and 40K each have three heats. Those who finish in the top third of a heat have first dibs on tickets for the finals proper. They are then offered down to the next highest finishers etc.

I haven't been to one myself, so I don't know for certain.

Boar - You're 15? I thought you had to be 16 to go to the grand tournament???

Did I imagine this? Or am I just being too optimistic that more tickets will be available due to the little people not be elligable? (No insult intend to anyone young or small)

As I said early in this topic, heats make sense to me, especially if they were regional. You could reserve some tickets for overseas entries to be fair and help keep the identity of the tournament.

I notice that GW are also running other tournaments now, I don't think it would be such an issue if they ran a second tournament at Nottingham with direct entry, but because this is the "Bloodbowl", most people want to be there.

meh.... heats seem a bit too competitive to me, not like its something to tell your mates "oh yeah, im #1 in the world!" :) but thinking the banter at tournies is the main attraction at BB tournies?

If there was heats you would get no stunty teams there which would be a shame, it would just be the power teams

I still want to attend some time, hopefully 2007, but I wouldn't even consider playing a qualification for the main event first. If heats were played it would very likely become a UK only event.

Another great reason not to do heats

Or you would get European (or even World) heats! Every country can devide x places amongst themselves, by running a pre BB tournament (ask the Germans how that's done  )!

All of a sudden the majority of British would have to watch from the sidelines!

As I said in my note I thought heats would be a good way of qualification for UK competitors, not the rest of the world, I thought this would be impracticable.

But I would point out that this isn't the only "major" tournament, there are equivalent tournaments elsewhere, isn't Dungeonbowl in Germany in March?

I also know that GW run other tounraments in the UK.

Whilst appreciating everyone would like to play in the Bloodbowl tournament, for reasons of space and time the entry is limited.

I was happy with a first come first served system until I realised that there was preferential treatment for certain categories and I thought heats, as used for other games systems was the best alternative.

Heats for a proportion of the available spaces with the remainder going on sale on a first come first served basis after the heats wouldn't be too bad.

I doubt it would be practical to make all UK entrants go through heats and all foreign entrants buy their places directly though. You'd need to be pretty certain of the number of foreign coaches in order to allocate a suitable number of tickets to them, and you'd have to know that number before you organised the heats.

It is a case of finding the lesser evil IMO. Heats are not perfect, especially for overseas coaches. I am not championing them at this stage by any means.

But are they worse than this years system? With half of the tickets sold through the GCN before the rest of us get a chance to buy one? :-? None of those GCN people are hardcore Blood Bowlers.

If tickets for the BB are going to be sold through any third party, maybe it should be the NAF? There could be a qualification system, as most RL sporting tournaments have, based upon how many other tournaments a person had gone to in the previous year.

I don't like the idea of restricting access to the BB based on number of other tourneys attended. For one reason or another I haven't been able to attend many others. That doesn't mean I'm less deserving than someone who's been able to attend a lot.

But I do agree that if there are to be pre sales of tickets then it should be through the NAF and not the GCN. Btw, do you know if all 100 of the tickets available to the GCN have been sold?

With all due respect Nazgit you are talking out of your arse. How do you know that people in the GCN are not Blood Bowlers? I am in the GCN, I may not do loads of tournies, but I have done all the BB's, run DungeonBowl Demos at GD for the last two years and run local leagues. If you want chance to buy a ticket early join a Gaming Club or start your own. If you only allow people who play in NAF tournies etc as you mentioned you are going to kill the game - in time. I don't totally agree that the GCN should get them before anyone else, but closing the BB off to all but the apparent Bloodbowl clique that is developing is worse.

I play GW games for several reasons, I love the models, I enjoy the games and I love going to tournies because of meeting new people and having a laugh. From what I have read in these posts there is very much a them and us thing developing between "hardcore" bloodbowl players and the rest of us, that saddens me a lot.

There are 51 GCN clubs who can buy up to 10 tickets each. I seriously doubt that any of the 100 tickets remain unsold, thought there is no way of knowing for sure without asking GW.
