Would you buy resin conversion/accessory sprues?

If the parts/price were right, would you be interested in resin (not metal) conversion parts and accessories?

All else being equal, resin would be fine.

Would you buy resin conversion/accessory sprues?

Post by Lahatiel »

Discussion has cropped up around here from time to time regarding the possibility of conversion/accessory sprues, and it seems to me like the majority always thought it could be a good idea. By this I'm talking about things like a player sprue with shoulder pads, helmets, hands, etc.; and a sideline sprue, with pom poms, foam fingers, clipboards for coachs; those kind of things. My question right now, purely hypothetically, is:

Would people be interested in such parts if they were resin (as opposed to metal)?

For the time being, I'm not really interested in a discussion of what parts should be included, how much it should cost and so on; just the material involved. So far now (again, this is all hypothetical, anyway), just assume that such sprues had the right parts for the right price: I'm only wondering at the moment if people would find having resin-cast pieces to be of an acceptable material. Or would you hold out for metal pieces only?

Of course, I couldn't and wouldn't stop people from discussing any of the rest if you so choose, but seeing some people's disappointment at finding out that the Goblin Forge ogress was a resin figure just got me thinking.

My resin Ogress mini from Goblin Forge was broken when I got it (after it taking a month for it to arrive from when I paid ... Its not worth my time to try and get them to replace it) ... no resin ever again for me ... period.

Galak

As someone who plays with both knife and dremel, I would prefer conversion bits in resin.

I'm a little concerned with the durability of resin, having a similar result as Galak, however as bits I'd give it a try but to be honest I prefer plasic over both resin or metal.S.

Assuming this was true, Yes I would be interested.
I'd be more interested in a mutations and a secret weapon sprue then the ones you have listed though.

Yup, mutation sprues would be most intersting. But hands as well, since weapon snips leave me wondering what to do to cover up the inside of the fists.

I'd LOVE this kind of conversion sprue. And I am a big fan of resin, so no problem for me on this front.

I've had bad experiences with resin, it's far too brittle for me to consider using. I've broken a lot of resin things in my time and I prefer working with metal (except for the very large stuff like walls etc, but I don't work with those anymore. Only Blood Bowl minis)

If I had the choice between metal or resin I'd take metal every time.

As for what I'd like to see, the stuff listed above (I'd probably accept resin shoulder pads and helmets btw) mutations, open/empty hands (for various races - some with dusters, some with balls etc), hands with food in (for my halflings + spectators), balls, hats as well as helmets (jesters caps would be neat for my goblins), boots and snotlings. :D

Thanks for the thoughts so far, everyone. I can understand the reluctance toward full resin figures, but thought that such concerns would be mitigated if you're dealing with just a piece here, a piece there. Seems as though the majority might agree with me.

I asked because I working with a friend on a (non-gaming) project that will involve us doing our own molds and resin casting, and could well result in some leftover materials, so I was plotting possible future uses. It might even involve access to a pressure chamber pot, so the possibility exists for some nice quality pressure-casting. Of course, any fantasy football output would be a couple months away, at least, as the friend's project takes all priority. But I can start scheming in the meantime, just in case, now that I know people might be interested. If it looks like this could actually become a reality, I'd probably start a new thread then with part requests.

I would love to see HANDS and mutations. I totally agree that weapon snips leave the hands looking rough on lots of minis. A batch of heads for different teams would be nice as well.
