well my round robin league on FUMBBL has 20 teams, 20 different races, so when its over, the players can say they have played every team bar one or two, which is plenty to brag about, it also makes you a better coach!

I've noticed that, I got a Dwarf team which I pretty much only use to challenge other Dwarf players and they always refuses...Uber wrote:I bet most of those brave dwarf coaches don't even play against dwarves themselves. There's just no reward playing a high av thick skull all block stalling team. Until they make some changes to them, I don't see that changing much.

Blood Bowl game - $60
Cost of a Human Team - $40
The look on your opponents face as his one-turn scorer gets taken down by a thrown rock from the fans – Priceless.

Thadrin, I´ll play your dwarfs, anytime. Have only met you when you played orcs.Thadrin wrote:Why? because people are scared of them?
There are opponents that will make more of a mess of your roster than dwarfs.
Sad that you didn´t come to this years Gothbowl. It was lot of fun and many great matches. And Mattias, one of the organizers, had made a new and improved Dungeon Bowl court for the final. It was really good.

I've played around 50 games on FUMBBL and whilst some games have been more enjoyable than others, I've yet to play a real arse of a coach.
I like the variety of fumbbl - the sheer range of players and teams and tactics to face. That, IMO, is much more fun than just playing a local league against the same people (from my dim memories of doing such things before I moved to the sticks).
(That's what I mean by keeping my friends/bloodbowl seperate, Gus)
And FUMBBL's ELF (Elves Leaving the Forest) league is a great thing, even if Uber is currently winning by a country mile. My Dark Elves will take on anyone - and that includes Dwarves. I don't give half my team leap for nothing.

And Khemri is different from this how? oh, they have str 5 to corner the cage with.mstrchef13 wrote:As I have read about in forum threads and heard personally in chat, many fumbbl coaches don't want to play against dwarves because dwarf strategy is highly predictable (get the ball, cage, plod down the field two squares at a time), slow, and boring.
Why is it boring to you? can you not stop it? I find it can be fun to try and stop a cage..even if it requires outrageous things (like dodging on a 6+ or something)
Honestly, I'm on fumbbl to (1) become a better coach, and (2) enjoy myself. Winning and losing doesn't matter much to me, because I realize that I'm not as good as most of the people I play. However, if I'm going to give up 2 hours of my life to play a game, I want to enjoy myself. It doesn't matter whether I'm playing elves or chaos, I'm going to be bored to tears against a traditional dwarf coach. Cage, plod, stall, score on turn 8 is incredibly effective as a strategy, and incredibly boring to play against, so many (including me) just won't do it.
Also, why is playing against a slow team boring? do you not enjoy the ART of blocking? There is more to Bloodbowl than scoring as fast as you can you know. Personally, I like the blocking strategies just as much (probably more, seeing as I'm a dwarf coach mainly) as the passing strategies.
Yet that chaos team with all the claw/rsc/dp on it will get more games than a dwarf team because of the reputation that dwarf teams have..slow/boring/one trick team. Heck, even the Khemri (who are even slower and more likely to cage up and beat the snot out of your team) get more games. And it doesn't just happen on FUMBBL..it happens in other leagues also.OTOH, if I look at your roster and I see a dwarf runner with 9 completions and a blitzer who took catch on a doubles roll, then I'll play you because you're different, and the game will most likely be enjoyable regardless of whether I win or lose.
Fumbbl coaches aren't anti-dwarf (for the most part), they are anti-boring and anti-predictable. A chaos team with three claw/rsc and dps on it is predictable too, so they don't get games much either. But fumbbl isn't anti-chaos. It's an open format, you can choose to play who you wish. I wish to be entertained, to not fear for the survival of my team, and to have a chance to win. If I don't think I have that, I'm not playing, and why should I?
I guess I"m just a bitter dwarven coach now. I'm so tired of offering to play an elf team and get refused JUST BECAUSE I'm a dwarf team. Playing only bashing teams does NOT help me improve as a blood bowl coach at all..I need to play vs elves (and other fast teams) to learn how to play against those teams!
But, because more and more people don't recognize that blocking is just as fun as dodging, I'm regulated to playing against bash teams almost all the freaking time.
Guess I woke up on the wrong side of bed today.

For me, the best thing about FUMBBL when I first joined was the step up in ability of the opposition. Going from having only a couple of players in my local league who could challenge me, to having hordes of dedicated and strong coaches to play against was great fun.
Ironically, though, it made playing the local league games even less challenging, since I learned a massive amount in a very short time at FUMBBL. (Thing is, after two years as a fumbbler, I'm still only a 'solid' player as far as that site goes)
But then, I've moved now anyway, and don't have a proper local league. (there's a couple of guys I vault-test with, but those games aren't that competitive) So I'm pretty much stuck with online games these days.

I agree with some of you, I disagree with a few of you and there are 2 of you I just don't understand
Oh....I happen to be in the SWL as well and also play DnD with clayinfinity...his wife makes the BEST coleslaw I have ever had...THAT is what I have to thank FUMBBL for..new friends, fun games, and coleslaw! What more could you ask from a gamesite?

As far as I'm concerned, they aren't different. Khemri can be monumentaly dull in the hands of some coaches. If I had to guess at why Khemri get more games, I'd say it's because they are (I find) easier to beat than dwarves, since if anything they are LESS flexible.GorTex wrote:And Khemri is different from this how? oh, they have str 5 to corner the cage with.
This made me laugh. You've answered your own question right here. Those people that think blocking is more fun than dodging will most likely be playing bashy teams. But, because more and more people don't recognize that blocking is just as fun as dodging, I'm regulated to playing against bash teams almost all the freaking time.
I have to say though, I'm sick of the whole 'if you don't like playing dwarves it must be because you can't beat them' argument. I've had a fair amount of success in breaking their cages and stopping their 8-turn trundles. The problem is, to do it I had to play in a fashion that I found uninteresting. I'm not saying it can't be just as tactical and require as much skill as any other type of play, just that it isn't (to everyone) as much fun.
(Oh, and I know you put that in as a question rather than an argument, the 'why is it boring to you? can you not stop it?' bit. Hope this gives some answer, even though you were'nt asking me

Different is an understatement here. Crunching skellies produce one of the greatest noises in the game of BB. And they can even come back to crunch once more!GorTex wrote:And Khemri is different from this how? oh, they have str 5 to corner the cage with.mstrchef13 wrote:As I have read about in forum threads and heard personally in chat, many fumbbl coaches don't want to play against dwarves because dwarf strategy is highly predictable (get the ball, cage, plod down the field two squares at a time), slow, and boring.

Isn't that the case with dorfs each and every single day? I'd hate to wake up in a moist, dark chaber inside of a cold, depressing mountain over and over and over again.Dude, I really recommend that you create an AV 7 elf or WE team and play against your own lot (i.e. dwarves). I really want to see how long you can endure that. Should improve your coaching skills too!I guess I"m just a bitter dwarven coach now. If you create those elf sides in unranked I'll gladly create some dwarf sides to play against your guys.Guess I woke up on the wrong side of bed today.

You think that's bad, just imagine how terrible they must feel the first time they look in the mirror every day...poor guys.Mirascael wrote:Isn't that the case with dorfs each and every single day? Khemri are less fun to play, but in general are not as good at handling the ball and have really squishy linemen.
I gotta admit as an undead coach, I find orcs a handful. Perhaps thats just a racial mismatch (I always seem to loose to orcs with undead). We know the game isnt 100% perfect, try playing halflings vs dwarfs
Another problem with fumbbl: Why get your teams beat up by some random guy you never met before? I mean you spent lots of time building your team and this stranger comes and breaks them for you, no fun right? Almost all fumbbl coaches have learnt to be conservative in their game choice, otherwise team development just wouldnt happen.
