Big Guy TZ

Post by aryus1 »

I was wondering if anyone can clarify the TZ for a big guy or bull centaur model. Is it every square adjacent to the model or just those to his front and sides?

Thanks.

I think you may be remembering the old 2nd edition, where BG took up 4 squares and only had TZ to front and side.

Nowadays, they take 1 square and have the same TZ as everyone else.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Yup, that's what I was remembering.

What about Bull Centaurs? They take up 2 squares.

i have seen some bulls a long time ago in a league far far away that were converted to rear up and stand on a round big guy base but that was far beyond my minor minature modifying ability.
they were very cool though painted well as well as i recall

(off the topic again)

Funny thing is a Htark goes straight on a standard slottabase, take off one of the 2 tags and it slots right in. Dunno why more people don't bother.

Taking it further

Post by Zap »

So to take this question a little further...

What are Big Guys suppose to be based on? I always assumed it was a 25mm round, but the new Ogre pics on the Specialist games Blood Bowl website looks to be mounted on a 40mm round base (unless he is REALLY out of scale).

My tabletop league had a simple rule ... no fig could be used on the pitch was not on a 25 mm or less round or square base.

Personally this is a fine rule for me. If I ever ran tabletop as a commish. It would definitely be one of the league rules.

I don't see how you can dictate how people base their miniatures, I think Big Guys on 25mm bases look ridiculous. Really, does it affect gameplay that much that you need to tell people how their miniatures should look?

The problem we found Anthony was that the giant monster square bases made it difficult to play since they extended so far into adjacent squares.

I haven't tried the 40 mm rounds, but if they basically fit on the board in a square then I'd be fine with that. An Ogre on a giant monster square was a serious pain in the butt to play around.

We also had folks trying to do things like use the current Bloodthrister model and plop him on the pitch .... things like that mess up the board play quickly.

It looks to me as though Galak's figure is not on a standard round base. Should he be disqualified?

For our big guys some coaches use teh 40k round bases, some use a pair of round bases trimmed and glued together (a bit like Galak's giant figure appears to be mounted) and for the Bull Centaurs we use 3 round bases trimmed and glued. Some use the Big Guy square bases trimmed down to 3/4 size.

None of these are any problem compared with the difficulty of working out where to put a Rat Ogre, Treeman etc when they fall over.
