PBeM die rolls

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

PBeM die rolls

Post by Snew »

Does anyone know what the differences are between the 3 choices we have when selecting the random algorythm?

The Robert Edwards standard algorithm is the default and that's what I've been using. It seems that it assigns die rolls in order or something. If I try something, write down the rolls and quit, then re-open the tool and reload the game I get all the same rolls in the same order.

I can manipulate where the rolls are applied by hitting with different people, rolling the single die blocks where they're more opportune, absorbing the "1" on a player with a re-roll skill and using the TRR somewhere else.

The standard delphi algorythm doesn't do this. I can't quit, re-open and do the same thing again and get a totally different result. This seems better to me.

Help me out here. What are the differences?

i think the "re-doability" is done on purpose. there are logs to check if someone cheats or not.

I prefer the second one (I forget what it is called) but the default seems to be too perfect. It feels like I can guess when a 1 is going to be rolled because there hasn't been one in a while.

Probably all in my head, but I feel happier using the other algorithm

I haven't toyed with the second one yet. Is it "repeatable" like I described above? That's what I don't like.

It appreas the second choice is just like the third. Easy to manipulate.

Trust me, it's easier to manipulate when it doesn't repeat...

Yes, they do repeat. But as soon as you close the tool without saving... BUSTED!
