Starting Chaos Dwarf team
Starting Chaos Dwarf team
Hello everyone. This is my first post and resurrection of my BB career after a long 14 year hiatus.
I have been looking at the new rules and decided to try the "flavor of the month" and field a Chaos Dwarf team. I have thought of trying the following starting lineup for a league:
2 BC - 260K
5 CD - 350K
3 Hobgob - 120K
3 RR - 150K
3 FF - 30K
And Hthark as a freebooter for 90K.
I realize that I may not earn enough money to keep Hthark around, but the thought of 3 BC (one a star) seems too good to be true. If I get less than 90K from the game (what might I expect?) I should be able to pick up a 4th Hobgob.
Should I go with this or pick up a 6th CD and 2 more FF?
Thanks for your help.

First, you must start with 11 players on a roster, so you need to pick up at least one more player.
Second, if playing in a league I wouldn't bother with star players, they are very expensive and take away all the experience the rest of your team would have gotten (since the stars tend to do all the cool stuff, like scoring and casualties).
So, I think you should pick up another chaos dwarf and 2 extra FF, they'll be well worth it.

Like Balrog said, your line-up is illegal. You need 11 players, and freebooters don't count.
He's also right that freebooting is dumb. With only 3FF, you can't expect to make more than 30k to 40k per game.
So you'll be left with 10 players (assuming you were even allowed such a thing) and no money to replace dead and injured players, which you'll most certainly get.
You'd be much better off spending your money on FF and RR.
Personally, i started my chaos dwarves like this:
1 Troll
4 Chaos dwarf blockers
7 Hobgoblins
9 FF
5 RR
Bought an apothecary after game 1, and the the two bull centaurs as soon as i got the money. It's a much better idea for medium to long term to start with maxed out FF and lots of rerolls, since you can't buy FF after game one, and rerolls cost double after that.

am i wrong in thinking that when a freebooted player is taken on he counts as one of the positions he plays in?
eg if you freeboot Hthark he counts as a bull. so you can only ever have 2 not 2 + a freeboot??

If memory serves, and the LRB hasn't changes in the past 2 weeks, they no longer take up the position slot.[/quote]

Thanks for the quick replies.
I did not realize that you must have 11 on the team before hiring freebooters.
The idea of maxing RR and FF is very intriguing and makes sense for long term. How long would you think it might take to earn enough to hire a BC with an initial FF of 9? I'm not used to the gate rules since we didn't have them the last time I played.

If you need to buy an apothecary first (which you should), that's a total of 180k needed. Assuming your opponents also have 9FF, you can expect about 60k per game, so if you're lucky, you could have him by the end of game 3. That's assuming no other purchases, like replacing a dead player for example.

Start with 2 BC's.
BC's are the best blitzer types in the game and once you've given them Block & Break Tackle they are fantastic players.
If you don't start with them you'll probably struggle to break down opposition defences since CD's are easily to avoid and hob gobs don't stand up to too much pressure.
I'd be tempted by
2 BC 260
3 CD 210
6 HG 240
9 FF 90
4 RR 200
That gives you lots of RR's for failed pickups etc and should give you a good supply of money to get in the apoth and remaining CD's.

Having played several CD-teams, this is my favourite start up line:
1 BC (130)
5 CDs (350)
5 Hobbos (200)
7 FF (70)
4 RR (200)
1 Apothecary (50)
I always think it is worth having an apothecary on the team from the start, because I want to maximise my chances of fielding 11 players in match number two without having to buy another Hobbo. I want to save my money for the second BC!
With this line-up you can create a fairly good defence with a roaming BC and lots of pesky CDs with nasty TZs, along with Hobbos to do the dirty work of hampering the ball handler. On the attack, try and give the ball to the BC (that's what all your RRs are for!) and protect him with CDs and hamper the opposing players with the hobbos.
It has worked well for me.
Cheers,

I have just started my first CD team, it started out with
2 BC (so they could get SSP right from the start)
4 CD
5 HG
4 RR
6 FF (I think)
And it has worked alright. Both BCs have two skills each.
First thing to buy is an apoth.

The above starting Cockerel is ok if you want to take chance. If you're unlucky and get a player killed or MNG:d - you won't be able to both buy your apothecary and buy a replacement player for your second game. And starting with ten players in a match is *never* a good idea. A numerary advantage is something you as a Chaos Dwarf coach needs, not something the opponent should have!scrollmaster wrote:I have just started my first CD team, it started out with

Perhaps I am being too cautious here, but in my experience as a BB coach, it is statistically sound to start off with an apothecary, even if you field lots of AV9-players and *especially* if you have players with AV7.

here's the starting line-up i've used almost exclusively, and if not should have
2 Bull Centaurs (260)
5 Chaos Dwarfs (350)
4 Hobgoblins (120)
1 Apothecary (50)
Rerolls 3 (150)
FF 7 (70)
You cannot start a side with a freebooter, after a few games you'll just give up and srestart as you wont have enough players to be able to compete.
First purchase if not replacing Hobgobs, then fill out your CDwarfs, then re-rolls re-rolls re-rolls, cause with Ag 2 mostly on the team your gonna need em.

That's really not a good argument to start with them, as BCs are typically the players with the most SPPs on any chaos dwarf team, what with scoring all those TDs. A better argument is to start with none to let your hobgobs gain a couple SPPs before the BCs show up.scrollmaster wrote:I have just started my first CD team, it started out with
