Painting White

Post by richred_uk »

Can anyone point me to a guide to shading white? I want to use white in the uniforms of my DE team, but am unsure about how to shade it.

Thanks in advance

sorry dude, no guide, but I start with codex grey, then elf grey, then skull white (oversized pic below  ) alternatively if you want an ivory look you could shade up through bone, but that may look a little too bridal.. 8)

I get good results by starting with a Space Wolves Gray base coat, and then just highlight up to white. If you want the shadow to be darker, just start by darkening the SW Grey with a touch of Shadow Grey. This gives a blueish shade. Alternately, to get a yellowy shade, start with Desert Yellow. It really depens upon what other colours you are using to what shade of white you want

And the eyes are really good too (assuming the 2nd is like the 1st)

A nice big picture on how to do gems for once; haleluah

the finish looks very 'rough' to me ... ? do you water your paints down ? or is that just because the pic's been uber-magnified ?

Rough?!? :o

yes, I water my paints down, so I guess it is the fact that the picture is 50 times bigger than the model is...

got any pics of your own work I can objectively critique?
