Toby ... its a board game ... period.
Forget electronic.
The world ranking will be for tournamants like the Tulip, Resurrection, CanCon, FanaticCon, GenCon .. etc, etc, etc.
Also in order to recognize the electronic community, the NAF has agreed to give minor NAF ranking points for PBeM, SkiJunkie, NetBowl, and IRC based matches.
What you keep asking for isn't going to happen. GW has zero interest right now in a BB program. Take the bones thrown, man, instead of turning up your nose wanting for the whole steak.
Galak
Oh and Deathwing ... if you ever post a topic like this with DICE (for god's sake) and don't have a URL to post at the same time I'm flying across the pond myself to kick your butt.
No decent human being should taunt a group of fanatics that way

WARNING - Gratuitous Troll Feeding
Toby: please drop the online crusade. Bloodbowl is a boardgame. Every poster on this board enjoys playing the bloodbowl boardgame. If you desperately want to see an online version of the game get some coders together and submit a business proposal to GW, not to Talk Blood Bowl.
No-one on this board is beholden to make your ideas reality, that's up to you.
As for not being able to rank players for a boardgame, the fact that NAF rankings are based on international chess ranking algorithms seems to adequately refute your claim.
END - Gratuitous Troll Feeding
As for joining NAF, I'll be there with bells on.
Unfortunately NAF ranking will not include "jammy antipodean who rolls pitch invasions" factor but I'm sure Norse will put up with that

Are you seriously telling me that you don't appreciate a pre-launch glimpse of something this coolGalakStarscraper wrote: Oh and Deathwing ... if you ever post a topic like this with DICE (for god's sake) and don't have a URL to post at the same time I'm flying across the pond myself to kick your butt.

Already had some stick from Sean newboy via pm for teasing....

For the record, some of the dice were shown at Games Day Canada at the weekend, so given that they'd already entered the 'public domain' (so to speak), I actually thought TBBers might actually like to see the goodies in advance...
Patience my young Jedi...

WORDL RANKING SYSTEM
Correct me IF i am wrong but doesn't this somehow contain the element of PLAYING THE GAME WORLD WIDE ?
Galak why dont you take next best Jumbo Jet and fly over to my house to find out who is the better Blood Bowl player ? Its just a 10 hours flight so lets go. I bring beer & food whatever you like.
Seriously you all better join Ski Junkie, donate him some money to make Java Bowl shareware and start a petition to GW to make them support him. Unless Blood Bowl is online its... ah.. forget it. Go ahead buy some black dice.

There are tournaments in America.
There are tournaments in Canada.
There are tournaments all over Europe.
There are leagues happening accross the globe.
All of the above, worldwide, are played on the board. It is a board game.
Now imagine for a moment that all these games gave ranking points based upon who beat who and world ranking. Oh look, world ranking without being online.

World Rankings are based on the same system used for Chess. It's not magic (no pun intended), it's simply math. Toby, if you play people locally who play people I play, then we can make some assumptions about who the better player is. The more games you play, the more likely this becomes.

Toby, you just don't get it do you? Coaches came from Europe, the US, Canada and Australia to play at Resurrection. (In fact one of my(and Anthony's) opponents was German.)Toby wrote:WORDL RANKING SYSTEM

4 of us flew from the UK to play in Amsterdam, Thads flew down from Sweden, Longshot and Trambi travelled from France.
Piepgrass is flying over from Denmark to play at Reading, along with other coaches from Europe.
I'm hoping to get over to Orion (Canada) next year.
So you see we DO play each other, we DO meet each other, and we have fun doing it.
You spend your money on the latest graphics card and play anonymous people at various online games if you like. I'll spend mine on meeting people, renewing old acquaintences, having a bloody good laugh over a pint, checking out their minis, and pitting my wits and luck against them face to face, over a board.
You have your vision of BB, it's not shared by the majority. Now please stop repeating yourself!

A bit harsh some might argue DW, However I wouldn't be one of them. TBH it was only cashflow and my daughter that kept me from Res and Amsterdam. I am still hopeful that the Essex Bowl will come off and then we get to play some games. I can introduce you to the locally infamous sticky dice.

I'm already making plans to come back for the Blood Bowl next year
As far as the website goes, it's coming along but slower than we had hoped. Real Life (TM) has set us back a bit but we are starting to get back on track as time frees up for those involved. A good portion of the site is done and we're working on some key components.
