Applying Water Transfers To Uneven Surface

Does anyone have any advice on applying water transfers to uneven surfaces? I can do the transfers fine, but I've always put them on something flat, like shields. I want to put a choas emblem on the new Blood Bowl minotaur loin cloth, but it's uneven and wavy. Will this work or am I wasting a transfer? Even if it can be done, does it look realistic?

IME it does not work. You could try putting plenty of water under the transfer and then very gradually putting the tip of a hanky to the water.

It would look better if you could paint the detail on yourself, but if you need to use the transfer this is what to do, as suggested use a little water on the fig, put the transfer on then remove the water. Next take your favorate brush on seal and lightly bush on the over the tramsfer, this will help it stick to the fig.S.

Try to find some Micro-set. It's a decal softening agent which helps decals conforms to the surface they're being placed on. I've used it on the shoulder pads of my Space Marines before and it really does help.

I'm in the UK and I bought mine from www.grandprixmodels.com - I think it's easier to find if you're in the US.

Mind you - if it's only for one model, it might not be worth the cost (£3 or so per bottle)

Step 1: Don't use GW transfers. They are the biggest pile of crap out there! I've had trouble with them on flat surfaces!

Step 2: Listen to what the others have posted. Good advice. The softening agents work pretty well.


I usually use the softener and then carefully carefully carefully, gently gently gently use a soft napkin or sponge brush to push the decal down into the cracks.

But the best advice is to practice painting the details yourself and forget the decals.
