Painting my new DE team

OK. My favourite team of all has always been my Darkies. BUT I am beginning to feel the need for an overhaul of them, since they have played in the same colours since BB first came out. Their name has changed once from the Boston Panthers to the Rhavanash Panthers.
I have already got new figs for the team, some from 40K and some from Phiggs and am currently paint stripping the old players I wish to keep.

Do you think I should keep their traditional purple/black kit or change it, and do you think I should change their name as well? Suggestions are also welcome. Cheers.

Totally up to you, of course. I can understand if you think purple and black is a bit overused for DEs, but as far as I'm concerned you can use any colour combination you want. Just because their DEs doesn't mean they have to have dark colours and on the other hand, if you like the current colour sceme, use it even though lots of others have the same (though you will paint yours a little different than someone else). If you want a bit of a variation, why not add some metallic gold to the colour sceme (or drop the black altogether), purple and gold go well together (complementary). Anyway, totally up to you, if you want orange uni's, go for it, but don't reject colours you like just because others are using them too or if someone says certain colours don't go with certain races (that's a load of crap). Anyway I should get back to finish painting my CD team for the BB (yeah, I know, I'm a slow painter).

Yeah one reason I am thinking of the colours is because everyone else seems to have purple/black!

Theres nothing wrong with Purple and black, but hey sometimes we get bored with the same old paint schemes. There are some pictures of some interesting DE teams around. Look for some insperation.

The best differnt darkies Ive seen were maroon cloured leathers and dirty bone white for the armour plating totaly differnt but still looked very evil

I could even paint them claret and blue. Would need a bit of black though.

Dark Angels green with silver would sork well for Dark Elves.
If Only I didn't already have a horde of teams awaiting paint...

I'm going to you Purple and Black for my newlish-ly bought Vampires...but thats mostly because I wanted to call the team the Ravens, and it seemed appropriate to nick the NFL team's colours (even though I'm a Steelers fan).

perhaps a very dark purple with some yellow details would look nice ..
black and red/yellow
bone and black
bone and red
etc...

Yo Thadders are any of your teams black/yellow after the Steelers? I was thinking Dave of possibly just keeping purple, but I am really not sure about keeping the name. If I kept the name I would probably keep the purple.

Sorta...Between the Steelers, Watford and two American Football teams I used to play for, there's a lot of Black and Gold in my life...
