How to use Guard?!

Post by Nagash »

... hi folks....

... just want to know if anyone has developed any special formations/positions for players with guard .... or do you just position them at random... :)

also... what general/pass/agility-skill should I take for my wood elf thrower? (he has: pass, dump-off, accurate...) - I´m thinking either dodge or sure hands .... but I´m having second thoughts about sure hands, because I already have a skill that protects the thrower from giving away the ball (dump-off!) and having a re-roll on a +2 pick-up is not really worth it....

lastly... can you believe it.... my apothecary has failed 3 out of 3 rolls to save my woodies killed in action (rolling three 1´s - grrrr) .... such luck only comes about in 1/216.......

thx guys,

Nagash

In Amsterdam a couple of players tried tight three man front lines (that being three players in the middle of the pitch with no squares between.)

Positioned my Guard over the middle man, and two more outside the end men. Two dice Blocks, my choice, all round.

Guards are best in the middle of melees where that one player can assist your blocks AND wipe out opposing assists...very useful, as Spyke and Lucy will report. It just got silly against Spyke though - he had a Guard too.

I'm guessing the gaurds are on a Wood elf side.
I have 2 on mine, one has block as well, I just throw them where there needed,hell.....there quick enough, use them as support players.
On Offense they either protect the ball carrier, forming a pocket,or go on the line of scrimmage to support the tree,I cant wait till he gets Multiple block, then my front line will hit Hard.

Well I only have one Beast Man with Guard, so I put him to one side of my Chaos Warriors
Obviously, the CW's dont need it, but it scares people enough to try for a break down the other side, where I have skilled (Block, Pro, etc) players positioned :)
Although if you wanted to just use it normally, I would say get two players with it (Just like every other skill or position player. Always have two) because they are still vulnerable to blocks in a situation where you stick them in the middle of a punch up.
Then again, this could just be propaganda to stop all those teams who dont have Strength skills from taking Guard on a doubles roll :smoking:

I always try and develop two Chaos Dwarves with Guard as first skill, and two others with Mighty Blow .. guess where the Guards would be? Yeah, the line of screemage is their home, and they do a nice job at it.

Then, Mighty players get Dauntless, and Guard players use to pick Strip Ball or Piling on, since the AV9 would protect them if they end a turn at the ground.

hope that helps
