How many would like to see a new Kick Off table?
I just had the millionth 6 turn riot in a game where once again the weather changed but no it didn't. So what I'm getting at is that I would like to see the BBRC tweak these items instead of messing with injury system right now? I'm not trying to be nasty but it seems silly to mess with the major mechanics right now when so many little things can be cleaned up instead.
I should have waited to post this until I had an alternative table made up. I'll see what I can do this weekend.

I agree. The weather roll is extremely boring. It's highly uncommon to have the weather actually change. A couple of quick ideas (I haven't really thought on how this would affect the various teams or anything):
* Both coaches roll a d6. The one who rolls higher gets to choose the weather. Tie could mean reroll, no change or change into normal
* New weather table. More weather options, but don't just make stuff harder to do. Have some "positive" weathers as well.
Riots and stuff aren't common enough to bother me, so I'd say leave them.

I feel that some of the effects are too extreme. A blitz can really change the game as can a Pitch Invasion. Therefore I would prefer to see effects that are a bit toned down:-
Eg: can take actions with 3 players instead of a Blitz
Pitch Invasion affects d3 players or causes only stuns (how many fans are really going to beat up hardened Blood Bowl players?
The KO table could be extended for a number of effects... and there is no need to have a weather effect on the table. This could be rolled for at the start of each half with a few different tables which stop the result of sweltering heat going to blizzard etc. Each weather would have its own small table with only the closest 2 or 3 effects to the current weather on it.
Dave
PS however since there seems to be a drive to remove the number of tables at the moment I suspect others will not agree!

I'd like to see a Kick-off table with more events on it. You could still have the Great Old Results (Pitch Invasion, Get the Ref, etc.), but they'd be rarer on, say, a D66 table. Heck, you could even produce "Minor Version" of some of these (e.g., 61-63 = Fan Scrum, D3 players prone; 64-65 = Ruckus, D3 players stunned; 66 = Pitch Invasion, D3 players injured).
And there's nothing wrong with the weather not changing! This gives a 12% chance of nothing happening on any given kick-off. I think that's a critical component of any new table. You could create rules where the weather always changes on a Weather Change result, but you'd still need to sprinkle "Nothing Happens" throughout the table.

If you want different weather results:

The weather can be used either with or without the stadiums.

Get The Ref can be tough especially if you get the Grudge Match Handicap. However, if the other team has more or the same number of Dirty Players, remember the IGMEOY gets re-set so your opponent also gets 8 fouls with only a 1 in 6 chance of a sending off. So IMO its not tha powerful.

Or it can be completely worthless if the team is under scrutiny. Lots of things work like that. "YAY!! I'v bribed the ref. I can set up 12 people... oh wait, it's my 1st game and I only have 11 on my roster anyway...oops!"Dangerous Dave wrote:Get The Ref can be tough especially if you get the Grudge Match Handicap. Back to the actual topic here, I think the current kickoff table is fine. The most common single roll is a 7 (weather change) and the most common effect of that is nothing.
The ones most people complain the most about are the rare ones, 2, 3, 10, and 12 particularly. They shouldn't happen that often, and if they do, that's just lousy luck.
A bigger kickoff table would be another thing to have to look up, and wouldn't really add that much to the game IMO. Most of the coaches I play against already have the kickoff table memorized, and if they don't I do. It makes it relatively painless.
If you do want to make a change to it, make it simpler. Perhaps make 6 and 8 results (bad kick and quick snap) into "No event". Then the result will usually be no event, even if it's a "weather change". Sun must have passed behind a cloud. Or if you REALLY hate the rare ones, make 2 and 12 "No event". Personally I'm fine the way it is.

One thing that also is only involved with the kickoff table is Cheerleaders and Coaches. Why spend money on them if its only a remote chance that you will get an extra RR.
Before the RR2001 there were two really big random factors outside of playing that really could tilt the game. Cards and the Kickoff table. Now cards are gone (economical aspect), but they also became replaced with a weaker (too weak?) Handicap table.
So why did the RR2001 only change one of the two big random factors? I think its ok to talk about a modified kickoff table for house rule testing and maybe inclusion in a future RR (next year maybe?)

Thought on the weather: note what score you originally rolled. On a "Weather change" roll another D6, but think of it as a D(-3=>3): 1=-3, 2=-2, 3=-1, 4=+1, 5=+2 6=+3.
Add or subtract as relevant the modifier you roll from the original roll. Should give more shifting weather. No shifts from Blizzard to Scorching heat either.

I would love to see a d66 ko table. Maybe a few more spots on the ko chart to actually use the cheerleaders (which i consider the most useless use of 10k).
