optional extras

Post by ORTHODUB »

Just a quick survey about what people expect from ebay auctions with regards to full teams. I am in the process of painting a human team for auction and was thinking of offering the following services to any winning bidders. To cut a long story short the auctions are for sixteen member teams with full coaching staff and wizard.
The optional extras i was thinking of offering are outlined here

http://www.freewebs.com/orthodubs_bench/bbhumans.htm

which is my new work in progress site. Please feel free to have a read and see if you feel these optional extras and wanted or are just a waste of time offering.
Do people realy care how their bases are finnished or if their players have personalised numbers on them ?
Part of me thinks that this is similar to a commision but people dont seem to keen on them, so its like an auction with the option of customising the team as per commision work. All these extras were going to be free of charge apart from the extra models, but even they would be at very good rates.
thanks for looking anyway, feedback is always apreciated; good or bad.

Sounds like a really cool idea to me. I wouldn't buy into that but I could see how other people would. The customization is a great option, and I think that will attract a lot of buyers. I haven't seen your painting skills but I'm sure with this kinda thing going on they'll be good looking.

As far as bases go, I think it's a must. In my personal opinion, however, it's not. I don't do anything at all with my bases, but most of the people on this board subscribe to the idea that if a model isn't based, it's just not finished. I don't see why, but then again, I'm not thousands of other people. Just me. :)

From a business standpoint, I'd say do the bases. The majority of people like them done, and the people who can't do them/haven't seen it done well will love it.

I think you've got a really good idea going here. Run with it.

Thanks Biff, i thought it was a bit different from the normal auctions and gave them that personal touch instead of "buy my auction so i can make some profit", yeah ok i still hopefully make profit but with a personal touch.
I dont know if it was clear but i always base my models, the choice was how they were finished. If you want to see my painting check out my link in my bar at the bottom of my posts, some of the stuff is out of focus a little but i think i am getting better at the photography.

Best for the buyer: Offer to number them and base them to the buyers specs. Both tasks are quick and easy. You can just offer to send them out quickly, or allow another 3 days to base and number. This lets the buyer choose a method of basing to fit his other teams or pitch.

Best for you: Base and number them. If the buyer can't paint well he probably can't number them well either. Who wants to pay for a team that looks good except for a crappy numbering/basing job?

thats what i thought.
Would it mean you may bid on an auction you otherwise may not have ?
I dont know that either but i am going to try it on the human team and see how it goes.
What other option extras would you like to see on auctions ? within reason of course.

I am a lazy gamer (therefore have rarely painted a model before) but love playing with painted models. The idea of numbering and basing would attract me. However I wouldn't have a clue how I'd want them numbered as I have never numbered a team before, just memorised the players. I'm looking to buy a team when I get some cash and this would definately attract me over some other auctions. How much do you think a team would sell for?

Hey dont worry there is also the "you sort it out for me" option, in truth i dont know how much my teams will sell for. I always start my auctions at model cost, so in essence this final price refects what people think of my painting and i at least cover my costs.
Its good to know that some people would be attracted by an interactive auction insted of a static one, i know its only a small option but it is a start at least.

If I were to purchase a painted team I would want 16 players all postions maked out. Plus one apothecary and one coach. Numbering and basing as mentioned before would be a plus as well.

If I bought a painted team, I would also like to have 16 players, a head coach, and an apothecary. Funny cheerleaders are ok, but could be an add on. One thing I don't like are duplicate mini's.

I like to have no more than 1 of each mini on my squad. Just personal preference.

I though people would like 16 players, i try to add at least one big guy and a star player for variety. unfortunatly time does not allow me to convert the teams to avoid duplicates.
I also aim to add full coaching staff by this i mean head coach with assistants on a diorama base, apothacary and a wizard painted in team colours. That way you get all the figures you need in the same paint.
I was also going to include a painting guide so if you need models in future you can paint them to match.
As everyone plays differently i was also going to offer to paint upto a further six figures in the same style as the auction for literaly cost, to alow further customisation of the team to meet induividual requirements.
May do one Special every now and again where all figures are converted to be very different to the usual run of the mill stuff but i wanted some feedback on my standard teams first.
Got my photo rig set up now so expect some better pics to follow, if only my close-up lenses would arrive :D

well the first team to fit this format is progressing well. I have put a link here to the updated page with the team pics as they currently are. What do you think ?

I know the photography is not up to scratch but i think you get the general idea of the team..
