What's a fair trade for these?

Post by valedictor »

Hi guys,

If I want to offer my 2nd ed. orc catcher 3 and lineman 4 for trade, what can I reasonably expect in return? Would asking for 2 non-rare 2nd ed. guys for each one be unrealistic, or are they worth more/ less than this?

I see that the catcher is up on ebay at the mo, but with 4 days to go, if someone could give me an idea sooner than that, it would be most useful.

Cheers, John 8)

Orc Lineman #4 and Catcher #3 are rare, but only in respect to other normal 2nd ed. minis. They are variants of the normal catcher/lineman mini and rare bc. they never got an catalogue number of their own, but were still packaged and sold in blisters and team boxes.

If you ask me, I would call them "uncommon", as in many large orc lot you'll find one or both, but you couldn't order them seperately via mail order, though they were produced all the time and even send out by accident when you ordered the other Orc Linemen and catchers.

"Rare" 2nd BB minis (=not listed in the official GW catalogue 92)

This is how I feel their rarity according their market valuer and scarcity on ebay (from uncommon to very rare)

Orc Lineman #4
Orc Catcher #3
Dark Elf Catcher #3
Ogre#3
Chainsaw Gobbo with teeth
Treeman#2
Treeman#3
Chaos Dwarf#6
Mino#3
Troll#2
Troll#3

The trade value of Orc Lineman#4/Catcher#3/Delf Catcher#3 are roughly x1.5 to x3 non-rare 2nd ed. minis, but it depends what you want for them, you won't get 3x Skaven Thrower for them but maybe 3x Delf Linemen. But if you say that the average BB 2nd ed. mini is worth 3.0 US$, those have a value of roughly 7.0 US$ IMHO.

Treeman #2 isn't a BB Treeman, it's been confirmed as an old LotR Treebeard. I'm not convinced about Tree #3 either, think it could be a head variant of #2, but until I can get proof, I can't say about #3 :)

@Dave: I don't think, because:

1) I'm very sure that 80% of those get sold unnoticed on ebay as WFB Treeman, old Tree miniature, Lord of the Rings Treebeard, ugly tree fig. etc.

2) Troll#3 usually sells for 70-100 GBP (=110-150 US$), while that stupid Tree will get get 25 GBP at most.

The Troll 3 and the Spike are the only rare minis IMO. Everyone has their own ideas of the order of rarity. Some would say that the GD2000 lizard team is rare but I've owned 4 of them at one time or another so I might not. That's just an example.

I guess what I'm saying is that, if you get what you feel is a fair trade, you did good. I don't think those minis you have are that rare and I'd be happy to get 2 for 1 for them.

I've been after that tree #3 for about a year now and saw only one on Ebay.
The LOTR tree appears about once each two months, but the #3 I saw just three times, twice of that was the same 'Pro-painted' tree, the third one has, who else, Trav.

Yeah, I'd be more than happy with two for one, and maybe I can throw in a snot kicker to sweeten the deal a bit. Time to update my trade list I think.. thanks for the feedback guys.
