big guys - how many squares?

Post by valdric »

I know that this may seem obvious, but how many squares does a big guy occupy? the base normally covers four, but this creates some problems - how (or can) a big guy follow up if he pushes back someone and there are other players on either side of the pushed back player? how does leap work over a big guy that occupies four squares? is a big guy considered pushed into the crowd if two sqares are pushed out and two remain?

please clarify this for me.

Hi valdric.
Big guys take up one square and have normal tackle zones. This came up fairly recently:

And all the big guy minis will fit on 25mm bases which do fit on one BB square.

Trust me ... played in a tabletop league where the rule was that if the fig didn't fit on a 25 mm base you could not use it ... they all work.

All my Big Guys are on big square bases, but I've seen that there are big round bases used now. Can these be purchased separately?

They fit on the small round bases as well, sometimes the feet hang over but it fits better on the board and therefore only gives the impression that they occupy only 1 square. You should be able to buy a bag from your local GW store. There is about 64 in a bag.

I use the large round bases just because I think they give better balance to the model (both artisitically and literally!)..

They are easily available from GW as they are the same as the new Tyrannid big guy bases.. (as this is the base which the Thrudd model comes with, I'm guessing a move to large, round bases is the unofficial stance at the moment...)

They're also the same as the Inquisitor bases.

Pantera, a friend of mine bought a set of them a while back. Try checking with "Tradition".

Thrud comes with a unique metal base with a pitch line and a coupla skulls on it. Be a cool thing to order separately for Big Guys. The Blackhoof mino was the last BG we MO'd, and that came supplied with a large round base.

Not to be totally off the subjeck, but how many others were amazed at how badly Blackhoof (sp mino) stood on his standard round base?

Thanks for clearing that up - I guess I missed the Big Guy thread.

I see how the one square rule makes more sense - but, I hate the thought of having the feet hang over on a 25mm base. Still, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Easy to do, if people are gonna name threads 'Just curious' instead of something relevant like 'Big Guys-How many squares?' then how's anybody gonna find anything?

I'm gonna pass Tradition and the local GW shop next to it today and see what they have.

I also eagerly await my ordered Lizardmen team. Ordered the team +2 Saurus (one of the a Starplayer?! according to GW mail order) and +3 Skinks. That will give min 1 Kroxigor (with round base as I saw), 6 Saurus, and 9 Skinks. Should be good.

try em4miniatures.com.... they've got the best prices on bases anywhere (and if you buy them by the thousand, you get a great deal)
