Cards vs Table
Just out of interest who uses the table and who still clings to the old cards.
I personally love the cards as they add spice and variety to the game. And the fact that your opponent never knows quite what you have up your sleeve.
What are your opinions?

Yay this one again
We use the cards. Cards rule, BB is a game of fun, we have an open league with top 8 qualifying so "uber card" games don't destroy your season. Our players are so used to the cards now that they plan for them (if good!). The cards aren't too overpowered at all. Cards make Blood Bowl more "realistic" - in terms of the Blood Bowl Universe. Cards mean lower rated teams have a better chance of winning. The surprise element makes the game a game of blluff and strategy aswell and its just more fun that way... Also cards tens to pull teams back to a 250-300 rating with the NEW rules on gate, winnings ageing etc. You can lose rerolls, get players peaked, lose money, gain money - its all good
I have *SEEN* these effects in practice in our league and its the most balanced, fun
AND exciting league for ages.
Which is why I like cards
A league without cards is OK but a bit predictable and ends up with calls for more (uneccessary and wholly crummy) reduction in team progression (nay says I!
)
NB the lower handicap team rolls ONE dice to decide how many cards BOTH teams get...
Some suggestions re cards:
1) Make new set only playable in OWN turn
2) Only give handicapee cards
3) Tone down specific cards
All these would be either ors....
BUT GW won't print any more because its not cost effective or inline with their policy of "no cards" games
....because people lose them!
SO....
*IF* We were to go to the handicap table it would have to be made A LOT better and more interesting.
But potentially we might switch. Every year the cards get less complete....

I agree. I love the cards and they are fun - but they need work. Much better than a table in my opinion as well. But because it is a 'major' change there certainly won't be any move on this in the rules review process this year.

My hope? For new cards to be developed. Will it happen? I hope so. Current thinking is that there will be a new table developed eventually that will be able to be put into card form for those who love the cards.

don't count on there ever being a move on the cards. as much as some of us like them, most people hate them and that's the facts. they're never coming back...officially that is. that's why house rules rock.Babs wrote:But because it is a 'major' change there certainly won't be any move on this in the rules review process this year.

I lprefer the table over cards, but would like to see a "layered" table like the one (Milo? Chet?) posted.

I hated the cards. If I wanted to trump a game, with a card, I would play bridge.
But as I like some randomness I prefer a table, The layered table has been my favorite, by far.

Exactly, the table and removal of cards has meant that the bigger team wins more now - prompting those in command
to go off on one about shafting team development to make the game more "balanced"
Cards (or a handicap) are a much better solution to the big guys ALWAYS winning....

I like it! Mikey just told a BBRC member what to expect in the rules review.

Just my usual bandwaggoning whenever I hear Milo's layered handicap table mentioned:
We're are using these tables that base on Milo's. We felt that they need some enhancing and came up with our version:
