Kroxigor Development, Finals and Beyond

Post by tonythep »

My lizardmen are about to play in the league championships. We're going to get slaughtered, too, because of these factors:

- The opposing chaos dwarf coach is the best player in the league, has played for a decade or more, went undefeated in this league and the last, and taught me everything I know. I'm going to be outcoached.
- His CDs would be terrifying for a full-strength squad to face. Highlights include a ST5 Frenzy BC, a Sure Hands/Blodge ball-carrying BC, a half-dozen CDs all with Guard/MB (one is ST4, as well), and Dirty Player hobboes to round things out.
- I'm not full strength. In my semifinals against the Amazons, I had two saures killed and a third one SI'd with a -1 ST, and since retired. (I also lost an off-the-rack skink for the finals, but with no permanent damage.) I was fortunate to make enough money to buy back another saurus, but that still leaves me at 4.

So I'm doomed unless I have some sort of legendary run of luck. That's why I'm not asking how to win; I know that already. "Roll bangs and sixes, and make him roll skulls and ones." That's my strategy.

No, I'm here because my Kroxigor got a skill against the Amazons, and I'm torn. Here's the squad:

Saurus x2
Saurus, Block, MB
Saurus, Strip Ball
Skink, Side Step x2
Skink, AG4, Side Step, Leap
Skink, AG4, Catch
Skink, Catch
Skink, ST3
Skink (SI)
Krox, Block, SKILL
5 RR, FF 12, 1 Asst. Coach, apothecary, 30K gold. TR 168.

Now this may be the finals, but I expect to be able to run this team again, so I'm looking long-term. I really like my current squad of skinks, as you can imagine. So for the Krox I'm torn between:
-Tackle: nigh-useless in this game, but maybe in future leagues if they're Elf-heavy.
- Pro: rerolling Bonehead very much appeals.
- Piling On: the opposing coach and local BB sage recommends this, because PO is pretty broken for big guys. I'm hesitant to put him on the ground with the hobboes waiting to stick the shiv in.
- Break Tackle: Dodging out with a 5ST has a certain appeal. I already set him up six squares back of the LOS as a sweeper.

That's about it. Any thoughts?

I'd go with break tackle. It's a skill desperately needed by Lizardmen, and you need one player with it to have a ghost of a chance. Good luck, and I'd expect to lose a skink or two if I were you.

Break Tackle although nice is not a great idea on a player who will fail his bonehead roll every time you want to blitz. You really need a couple of Saurus with it.

I'd take Pro for the increased reliability. Don't forget to use it when you only get a push too.

Piling On isn't that useful if he's going to foul your a**e every time you go down.

block...

unless you really are of the mind that your going to lose. (which I may add, is the wrong mindset) Then take pile on, cause that should get you block quicker than doing it in reverse.

good luck, and their is nothing wrong with your game plan... hoping to roll POWs and sixes while the other guy comes up with one and skulls is a very sound tactic.

Dont take piling o for this game, as its unlikely your krox would get through the game unscathed, his DP's will soon make mincemeat of him, got to be Pro.

I'd take break tackle.
I have it on 2 saurus and it really helps having a player with more than 2 ST who can move on the pitch.

Good luck for your game

I've found the big guys I give pro have been signficantly better players imediatly both on the bone head roll and the odd blitz action as well.S.

I am a big fan of Guard, or Tackle. I ussually don't throw a lot of blocks with Big guys, though, I use them more as punching bags and roadblocks. I find that everytime I throw a block I bonehead, and lose all the tacklezones in a critical area. Especcially bad because you lose prehensile tail, as well, for a Krox.

Guard - Makes a nice Str 5 anchor. Boosts up those Sauri, helps defend skinks. (with that STR 3 skink, you have a potential Str 4 skink.)

Tackle - Well, its Tackle, always need some of that. Always good on a Krox, against those dodgy types. Very useful if you can get him next to that Blodge BC.

I wouldn't go for Break Tackle for the same reason that Ian said.

I voted Piling On just because i would have taken that only to try and kill some of his player.
But Break tackle would probably be a better choice.

Definately BT, gives you great flexibility. I hope you kill the b**tards. Classic example of why CD's should not be allowed 2 BC's.

Nasty situation you've got there...I think everyones given good advice too. I think Pro or Break Tackle are definately two big ones to look at. The krox might have to be a big 'workhorse' for you this game especially, and pro would definately make him a bit more 'reliable' BT on the other hand might make him more 'useful' for this game. You already like to use him as a sweeper...it would definately help mobility. Given the fact that all the little buggers have tackle a normal team would have problems dodging away, so one might argue the no RR big part wouldnt be as bad...by comparison...if you are thinking more long-run though...then Pro seems to be a solid choice

I agree totally with Asperon Thorn, guard or tackle, pro as an outside choice.
