New Patch

Post by SkiJunkie »

There is a new 2.3 patch on the same download page as the original game download.

http://www.geocities.com/javabbowl/

The 2.3 patch adds STAND FIRM and fixes some other problems.

Download the "patch2_3.zip". Unzip the contents to the original install directory. It will overwrite the "bbowl.jar" and "readme.txt" files.

Are there any online leagues who uses this client to play?
Just found it while looking for something that works under Linux... Looks very nice.. Although I miss a chat feature.. (Or maybe there is one and I just don't see it in single-mode.. Or maybe I'm just dense :P )

There have been a few leagues that use it to play online games. I only know from people writing me mails. I don't think they have formal websites or anything. Many of the ones I've talked with don't use the java client exclusively. Some use it to play games with people who are not in their local area. I'm not trying to play favorties with anyone that has written me, but off the top of my head here is a website of the most recent league I have heard from. http://www.shsu.edu/~stdtec12/bb/ They just mentioned that they use my program to help new people learn the rules. I dunno if they use it in league games or not. Not trying to exlude anyone else that has written me about their leagues, I just can't quickly locate any of the mails that have pointed me to their websites.

There is a chat feature for networked games. If you look below the messages window on the bottom right of the screen there is a text box (disabled and gray in stand alone mode). You can use this to type messages to your opponent. What you write will show up in red in the messages window, and what your opponent types will show up in blue.

There is a new 2.4 patch on the same download page as the original game download.

http://www.geocities.com/javabbowl/

The 2.4 patch adds all new player icons to the pitch plus fixes a few problems.

Download the "patch2_4.zip". Unzip the contents to the original install directory. It will overwrite the "bbowl.jar", "readme.txt", and several .gif files.

Play it!

Post by gigatron »

Hello,

Does somebody want to play this Java Bowl with me? I would like to make a couple of online matches to see how well it works. In the stand alone mode, it works fine! I use the 2.4 patch.

gigatron.... welcome ... get a different avatar PLEASE!!!! Its not like this is a family discussion group, but I'd like to think we could avoid avatars that I'd expect to see used at a forum for someplace like peepholecam.com .... (before you ask, I help with security occassionally and this was one of the last site I had to lock out company internet access to ... there was a link to the forums theres ... thats how I now). So please do me a favor and if you're going to post regularly ... get a new avatar .... I'm hoping JohnnyP will agree if he's still alive.

Hopefully someone will get you a match ... I know your post on the BBC went unanswered.

I just played a game against gigatron.. I have to say this client is truly wonderful! Very nice job SkiJunkie!! :) Ok, so my enthusiasm may be tainted my the fact that I rolled quite alot of 6'es during the game.. But still.. Very nice client!

stupid avatar

Post by gigatron »

Thank you Galak for your welcome. I just put this stupid avatar for everybody to look at my message. And it worked, as I could play in 10 minutes. This site's cool!

Unfortunately I just discovered the 3rd edition rules a few days ago, I only realised that they are pretty different when I lost my match 4-0. So please if somebody wants to play the java applet let me practice a little bit, next month I'll be able to play a bit better (I hope!). By the way, Ski Junkie's applet is cool, I agree with everybody. So please find time to play, working too much is bad for health.

PD: the avatar is deleted

Thanks gigatron .. much appreciated for the avatar kill.

Glad you found an opponent ... and yes this site is cool.

Also I think SkiJunkie's program is great ... and you'll see that posted by me in several spots.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to sit down and play an entire match so the PBeM tool is the only way to go for me .. but if I had the time, I'd be using SkiJunkie's program ... the only problem is the flexibility since the game plays only one way, but that's more of a quibble since I like my house rules than a complaint.

Now Gigatron/Christer ... start a SkiJunkie league so that there will be one out there.... :D

BTW, how far along is Ski's program for the BB2k1 rules? Is it still mostly 3rd edition or is the LRB starting to show up more ... been a while since I played around with the program.

Lets see here.. from the match we played, it was rather hard to see if it follows 2k1 or not.. I tried a foul at one point (late in the game), but didn't notice any penalty roll? Can you confirm this SkiJunkie? Maybe I was just not seeing it... :)

I should probably start it up and analyze it further.. :)

The Blood Bowl is cool but the Look & Feel is so sub standard for me that i cant start to like it.

Isnt there somebody here on the Board who is skilled in computer art to contribute to the progamm ?

Does the Game store Star Player Pionts ?
How about importing and exporting teams ?

I THINK Ski was working on an SPP report for the end of the game ... not sure if its in there yet.

Also it does allow new teams but does not export updated html rosters.

Galak

Oh and Toby ... what you want is Blood Bowl Alive:
http://dchomard.free.fr/data/html/bloodbowl/BBhome.html

However look at the team section and you'll see that they found the rules of Blood Bowl just way to much to try and program so they gave up. The game of BB is very complex when it comes to coding it.
