Tough choices for a new team

Post by SBG »

OK guys, after three seasons of kicking everybody's ass with my Chaos Dwarves (2 season championships, 2 Soup Bowls (our Blood Bowl), and playing for my third straight one in a couple of days), the league has decided to start over with fresh teams. It's a fair call : people were not as familiar with team developpment at the beginning as they are now and a couple of funny choices were made, resulting in poor team on the long run.

Now, when the TR reaches the level of my CD's (around 295-300), I'll bring them back for sure. But in the meantime, I have to find another team to play.

I'm thinking of three. The first choice is not appreciated by my fellow partners : I want to start a CD team again (main reason is that it is my only painted team!!).

Other two choices are : woodies or humans.

There are already an Orc team for sure, one human, and one undead (classic lrb undead). There might be a Norse team, maybe an amazon as well.

I'm (really) afraid of getting my ass kick with woodies, hence the hesitation to take the more well-balanced humans, or the bashy CD's !!!

Any advice ?

Fred

I play both woodies and humans. If you want any advice as to take what team I can recomend both.
Problem with woodies is definitely the chance that you'll get your ass kicked. But the problem is not as big as you might think. Mostly its a psychological thing as all your players quickly develop into good players and you really can't afford to loose one. (Oh no, another one down... no dont roll armour...) Also your regular BB player will react to your woodies with phrases like "I'm gonna kill those sissies" etc. With a little skill and a little luck you should be able to minimize losses (my current team saw 3 players killed in 26 matches, although I also retired two due to aging). The best thing about woodies is that you'll always have options. I fancy that you've found yourself totally off position with CDs without any chance to score or to stop your opponent to score. With WE that hardly ever happens. And scoring that winning TD with only 4 or 5 players left is an amazing feel.
Gorbad tells me I play my humans as if they were elves, but then again I've only played them for about 10 matches. Considering I won about 8 times it is a good way of playing them (and of course having an AG 4 blodge blitzer is a big help). What I like about humans is that they indeed have the best of all worlds. They can fight pretty well go for the running or passing game equally well. For me playing with humans is very relaxed, none of the psychological thing I have with Welfs. (Oh the lineman died? well he had skills... shrug and safe apoth). You still have plenty of options, and somehow when playing very relaxed you'll make all those 3+ dodge.
Hope that helps

I would advise to play something else than Chaos Dwarfs. You did that and now you might want to move on to something new. Both choices are good but you might find it easier with Humans...

I'd try out the Humans in that environment. You'll need to play them a little bit like a passing game with that much strength out there, but Humans have an excellent fast break running game going for them.

Paint a new team, and of those I would go WE. They are great to play, easy to paint and are completely different from the weirdos in big hats and their ugly side kicks. They are the ultimate throwing team, only Skaven are as fast, but not as agile. Play them you'll love em.

Let out your inner 'namby pambiness' and experience a whole new world of mobility! (tm)

But really, I have played orkz only for years on end as my only team, but now that I've also seriously played woodies, I can appreciate the finesse game more, and it did show my orkz a few tricks on how to deal with those zippy teams.
