CD defensive formations

Post by Matsu »

Thought I'd try out Mixx's outstanding new app.

I'm taking my chaos dwarves up against a very bashy Orc team (is there another kind) in a couple days. I'm liking the following:

ChaosDwarf Defense

I think it's pretty standard - gives me good presence near the LOS and the bull centaurs can attack the backfield or recover along the wings (they can hit every square on my side of the field).

My one concern is that I have a pair of dwarves on each flank that will take a while to recover when the play heads to the opposite sideline. I don't want to hang them out to dry by themselves (too easy to bust a hole in the sideline to give room to run) and not use all of the guard I've got available.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

My CD Setup

This is the one I use. Most important rule is never give them a blitz on your Bull Centaurs, they will do it everytime.

This could be another approach. I don't mind if they get to blitz a player on my center, as long as they get there, they are surrounded by my players all around.

Surely the critical question is against whom?

Its the combination of your opponent's team and yours that determines the ideal setup.

@TiMun

Do you think your setup will work against Lizardmen? Even if my CD don't have Guard all over? This setup looks a bit open, so everyone from the opposition could come to the middle without dodging.

The problem here is that you're making no use of guard on all of the dwarves. And the blitz on the BC - with who? They're st4 with block (one also has dodge), so I'm not sure why I care if they try to blitz one of them.

Certainly. In this case, it was against a bashy orc team.

I think your defense is starting too far back. Especially against a slow team like the Orcs. Move up a bit and put some early pressure on the ball so they can't cage up so easily.

I agree with Timun that if they want to rush up the middle, LET THEM. They're just opening themselves up to being hit with everything.

That being said, I think Timun's defense was a little too open against lizzies - it doesn't stop people from getting deep into your side of the field and the players are too spread out and unable to support each other. I prefer something a little closer to the line and with more overlapping tackle zones so the lizzie player has to commit 2 guys to knock down the dwarf.
