Passing ranges

Post by Tripleskull »

In another tread passing ranges came up. viewtopic.php?t=27355

I would like an official ruling on this matter. I have always though that the range was messured from the center on the squares, and the illustration in LRB indicates to me, that this is the intended rule. But I am not 100 % sure, and apparently someone has different oppinions. It would be wery nice with an official and unambiguos ruling.

that little circle on the ruler should be on top of the player, wich should be in the center of the square.

So basically ^^ what he said.

Triple, I keep telling my PBeM opponents that I placed the range ruler above the player and that its a quick pass everywhere. :orc:

@Zephard

I dont understand your point? please explain it :D

Im not sure if the pass ruler in PbEM is correct, but you can surely only pass 6 squares on a quick pass. Which was the start of the debate.

I place that pass ruler up to my screen, and look to where I want to pass. But my opponents say they can't see me pulling the pass ruler out of my Box and placing it up to my computer screen.

:lol:

The one in the tool gives you 3 squares straight out for quick passes.

Its been so long since I actually owned a pass ruler, I have forgotten almost what they look like.

So could some one write up an official passrange help? What I've seen online that conflicts with the plastic ruler is this:

Code: Select all

T = thrower
13b
12bbbbb
11bbbbbbb
10LLLLbbbbb
09LLLLLLbbbb
08LLLLLLLbbbb
07SLLLLLLLbbb
06SSSSLLLLLbbb
05SSSSSLLLLLbb
04SSSSSSLLLLbbb
03QQSSSSSLLLLbb
02QQQSSSSLLLLbb
01QQQQSSSLLLLbb
00TQQQSSSSLLLbbb
So could we have an "official" square-by-square reference chart showing the correct pass ranges. The other one is even bigger, with 7x3 showing as short..

I know that one is not too easy to read, but I couldn't paste the original as it was a picture, and the link to the table had died :p.

Havent checked the different tools.
But when i place my range ruler over the center of the square the 7th square away from the thrower is clearly not[\b] complete under the short pass range. So it must count as long pass since you aleays have to take the longer range if a square is not complete under the rangep

7 is a long pass. There was a BBRC endorsed table on the specialist games website which showed this. Galak presumably still has a copy somewhere.

It WAS on the GW website but it appears to have been taken down (!?).

Here it is then......

Thanks for clarifying this. I was unsure of this after playing against a certain NAF president (who shall remain anonymous) at monkeybowl who said that short pass range was 7. This was on turn 16 and was part of a one turner with gobbos so I didn't argue because I didn't want to look like a dick. :s
