Seems like anyone can just download this instead of paying this guy for a CD.

I would go even on step further. Is he allowed to sell intelectual property of other people that he downloaded from the internet. This counts for LRB 5 and the fanatic articles.

If you view his other auctions, it looks like he's just taking GW artwork and reprinting it and selling it.

Also, he's selling "secrets" to getting a free Wii and Xbox. Come on.

GW cracks down on stores offering a legit service like Battlewagon Bits, but losers like this get to make a few bucks illegally. Makes no sense. :?:

Anyone use eBay's reporting feature to report these listings to them for copyright infringement yet? I'm on my phone's browser right now so doing so would be too slow/annoying for me right this minute, but I'll report them the next time I'm at my actual computer, if they're still up then.

I don't generally make it a point to run around playing Internet Cop(TM) or anything, but c'mon... when something's just so blatant as this, I'm willing to make an exception. :-?

Sent the auction off to Andy Hall ... but too late for him to get it on Friday.

Come Monday ... I don't think this guy will last too long.

I understand bending the rules (a LOT of us here bend the rules on IP (heck just look at all the dice! )) ... but this is outright blatent IP infringement without any veil at all. And that's not right.

Jeez!

I have no love for Grandma Wendy but she's the last company I would mess with like that! :o

Can you say, "Poking a bear with a short stick"?

GW is gonna stamp "CEASE AND DESIST" on his forehead.  It looks like he's sold a lot of those prints and beyond that I can't see but something tells me his IP infringement isn't new.

Ouch.

I reported him to Ebay as well. I didn't even know I could report someone I didn't have a transaction with.

Check out his "disclaimer" on some of his print auctions:
This product has been created by ebay ID adammck1 and is not for resale. It complies with all of ebay rules and regulations. adammck1 is the rights holder for this item. This item is 100% legal and breaks no Copyright Laws.

One problem is that it's crap like this -- just blatant, over-the-top IP violation issues -- that force GW into being such hard-asses and cracking down on all the little "bend the rules slightly" instances that Galak mentions, because if GW wants it enforced in one instance, they have to enforce them all. :(

Tho, doesn't this fall into the "Freely available on the net to all" so is possibly ok to sell on CD? As all he is really doing is selling a service to people who don't have net access, or are on something like a 33K dial up?

Similar to all those linux resellers.

And no, it's not me.

He's making money on Games Workshop's property free or not.

Just like you can't record Doctor Who from the television and sell the DVD's.

He could distribute it for free on CD for free with no problems, I'm sure. (I know the same probably can't be said for a television show...but you get the idea.)

I was going to use music from the radio as an example...but then I realized how silly that would be. Of course all rules are out the window when it comes to music...

RVB: "I don't want it to be illegal; therefore it isn't. That's the way it works!"

Actually no ... you cannot sell another persons articles that are freely available on their website without their permission. Posting an item of yours on the internet does not make it public domain.

GW does even allow companies to use painted images of their figures to sell merchandise. For example ... Figures in Comfort used painted copies of THEIR OWN GW purchased figures to show their miniature carrying cases that they sold on their website. GW sent them the nice lawyer letter to stop. (don't get me started on this one ... I personally think this one is an outrageous abuse of the IP idea and that GW scored very very little points with this one in the gaming retailer community ... especially since 1 month later they used another company's water transfer decals on some figures they used for display ads and told the company when they complained to bugger off (big discussion on TMP on this one)).

Anyway ... definitely this one is against the rules.

Intellectual property in the West is a mess and leads to delighted lawyers and frustrated creators.... IP in ancient China was much better:

In the West you can hold IP, sometimes, past your death (Estate) and it has to be protected....

In old China, you came to the govt and they gave you a value on your product/process... if you didn't accept, then you sat on the invention... if you did... that was your pay and the invention became public domain....

P'O'd my college teacher when I promoted East over West in my research paper....

Oh, well, we're stuck with it....
