I’ve never fouled a player.*

However, it sounds as though Turn 16 fouls could serve a useful purpose in a competitive setting.

If you take them off the table then your opponent’s free to spend his last turn milking every last possible SPP out of injuring your team (which risks leaving players dead or crippled). Reserving the option of fouling forces your opponent to also think about self-preservation, which could result in him playing more conservatively so as not to leave any of his prized players exposed to a gang foul.

It seems to me that this is primarily about maintaining the normal flow of play. For example, one of the risks of using Piling On is that one of your experienced players is going to get fouled: this can discourage coaches from using it. There’s no reason for the kid gloves to suddenly go in Turn 16. If I'm “allowed” to use Piling On in my Turn 16, then you should be “allowed” to respond in the same way that you would have done at any other point in the game (i.e. by fouling).

* Primarily because all my matches so far have been friendlies. I'll probably start fouling when I play competitively next year.

Friends are the best people to foul. That way when you kill a player on a foul you can jump up, yell, "OH YEAH!", and flex your muscles in their face. I highly recommend starting to foul now...and make sure you get a running start.

Certainly not. That might well be the way you carry on in the colonies, but it simply isn’t the done thing on our side of the pond.

It’s true, Blood Bowl fouling etiquette was a major cause of the Revolutionary War.

George Washington was well known for shouting “suck it!” and doing hip-thrusts in his opponents’ faces each time he fouled an player. John Adams got his jollies by miming the fouled player’s screams for mercy in a falsetto tone before rolling the injury dice. They could never understand why their League’s British Commissioner took such a dim view of their antics, and eventually quit to start their own club.

Benedict Arnold was a Necromantic Coach, and liked to deliver an impromptu rap every time he injured one of his opponents. Rumour has it he had a Damascene conversion after Thomas Jefferson chanted “boo yah - in your face!” at him for 30 solid minutes after killing his second Werewolf.

On this side of the Atlantic, we’re very glad to be ready of your “Tea Party” types (especially those of you who insist on putting ice in it - you know who you are.)

I think because of the word Foul some people view it as bad sportsmanship from the person playing to do it. Even though it is allowed in the boardgame rules.
As some others have put fouls are illegal in the Fantasy World of Bloodbowl but are still done and the ref sometimes punishes players for it. In the roleplaying element it is violent guys smacking the heck out of downed opponents (and their fans probably love it). No reason for the players to start shaking hands before the final whistle. Think of it like that rather than getting upset that it is something that shouldn't be done.
It is not actually an action that should be frowned upon in reality like cheating. It is just an extra action you can do that has a considerable risk associated with it. In T16 there is no risk if it is your last action.

It probably comes down to how your opponent behaves. If they have annoyed you then the last boot may push you over the edge and force you to vent on forums.
