As promised, here we go! A quick report, mind you as brevity is the soul of wit...txapo wrote:I think one of you two should write a report in here,....
But first a disclaimer. The following (glowing) review is (heavily) influenced by blatant bribery on the part of the organizers - copious amounts of alcohol and freebies were enough to ply my (not very) incorruptible stance. ;-D
So, Bilbali Cup X, right? My first "real" tournament as well, innit? To be honest, the post that started this thread was more than enough to get interested with promises of games, freebies and a bit of tourism in a city I wanted to visit anyway. The additions of further freebies and the news of a Basque feast on saturday evening (which, according to tournament rules, gives participating players an unfair advantage, in the form of a massive hangover, on the sunday games) only sweetened the deal so it was a matter of hours to make some hasty travel arrangements and to Mordor I would travel in a few weeks...

From foreign lands one does not simply walk into Mordor.
One flies into it. Or takes the train. Or drives.
In this case, both Axtklinge and I flew into it (with cases of Orcs and Undead, respectively).
But I digress. About the tournament...
Bilbali Cup X was a 62 coach afair which took place in an old restaurant/beer hall. Spacious, no frills, etc with option to play indoors or outdoors depending on the coach's whims. Overall a very relaxed atmosphere to boot and everything having gone almost smoothly with only a couple of hiccups I can only tip my hat to the organizers and wish them the best for next year and the following years. Kafre, Aitor and the rest: "You guys rock!" is all I can say.
Day 1 my performance was nothing to die for (1/2/1).
Game 1 - a draw against Chaos Dwarves which could have been a win if the opponent had stuck to the 2-hour time limit.
Game 2 - Congratulations to my opponent with the MB Khemri team from hell which totalled key players and left me scrambling to make a single TD.
Game 3 - in this 2-0 win against Orcs, Nuffle was with me, so much that the end result was a total reversal of the previous game with my team inflicting massive casualties and KO's.
Game 4 - another draw, this time against a team of sexy dwarfettes
Intermission: Txuletón, cider, pinchos and more cider & nightlife in Mordor until 4 am (if I recall correctly). Great people, awesome atmosphere, delicious food, killer cider and insane conversation... what more can one ask for?
Day 2 my performance took a dive (0/0/2)
Game 1 - mirror match ending 0-1 my dice handicapped by the consequences of the intermission
Game 2 - 1-2 against wood elfs with the question "why the hell did I think I could chop down the damned tree while my opponent banged the damned dice cup so loudly?"
The end: position 44/62 and the "Camilo Sesto, este equipo mola mazo" prize (that's the best painted/whatever team prize).

Do I recommend Bilbali Cup?
Hell, yes, I do! Time and resources allowing, I fully intend to be there again next year! :pow:
In the meantime, for those that have the time and want to participate in something truly insane where tournaments are concerned, I sugest you check out Patatonia Cup.
