Surely the win/loss ratio should be the primary factor in determining the tournament champion? Why not have two 'tiers' of scoring points? The higher tier is win/loss - if teams are drawn with the same win/loss record then they are scored on TDs/completions/casualties etc. So getting touchdowns, casualties & completions/interceptions still matter but without winning the games first to get a high win/loss ratio they're worthless.

Yeah, that's how most tournaments work - the extras are basically a tiebreaker, but a significant number mean that a 4/2/0 can be better than a 5/1/0.

Apologies for being pedantic, but I'd disagree. Strictly speaking, if used as a tiebreaker, then 4/2/0 can never be better than 5/1/0. Tiebreakers only come in to play when results are equal, which wouldn't happen in this case.sann0638 wrote:Yeah, that's how most tournaments work - the extras are basically a tiebreaker, but a significant number mean that a 4/2/0 can be better than a 5/1/0.
However, a lot of tournaments award points for Win/Draw/Loss plus bonus points for Cas/TDs etc. When final ranking is based on the total of match points plus bonus points then you open up the possibility that 'more match points' plus 'less bonus points' can be beaten by 'less match points' plus 'more bonus points'.
Not sure why many tournaments use this convention, but it shouldn't be confused with tiebeakers.
