According to the Met office, the South is due 15-30cm tonight, possibly 40cm.
As such, all the schools are shutting, the local supermarkets are empty due to panic buying and the gritters can't go out because "it's to slippery".

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

We have about 5mm of snow at work. So that will mean Cornwall grinding to a halt later today.

Car packed for weekend already. Spade, water, food, sleeping bags etc. The Cornish mob will be there (we Cornish Pair)

Pete, where in Notts are you, my family lived there for over 20 years now?

The big dump of snow forecast for Tuesday night didn't really materialise so Notts (and Loughborough, I hear) is open for business today aside from a few closed schools.

In fact, it should warm up a few degrees by the weekend so I'm predicting that the East Midlands will be fully accessible (it is already).

Course, you have to make it out of your own neck of the woods to get here but hopefully the vast majority of UK roads will be mostly cleared by tomorrow let alone Friday night/Saturday morning so hope to see you all at the weekend.

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when they find out, you're a mile away...... and you have their shoes.

My folks in Birstall (~ 8 miles from Loughborough) seem to think it's OK down there too, my Mum's at work in Leicester with no issues, and she's a very nervous driver by nature.

So long as I can get to a motorway by Friday, touch wood, I should be OK. The office is over half full today, getting in on local roads was pretty tricky, but not impossible. From experience, they don't care about gritting the M6 till around Manchester, so if I can make it there, I can make the East Mids. ;)

Touch wood it holds off.

Hehe, small World indeed. Grew up there!

Wonder if we've still got the most heroin addicts per capita in the UK?

When your only claim to fame is that... Bad times! :D

not read all the posts yet but just logged on to see what the consensus of opinion was re: weekend...

can't comment on weather in Loughborough at present, but Burton was pretty bad this morning...

i'm in Winshill, Burton on Trent & we had a light dusting of snow last night but everything was ok when we got up this morning at 7.00 am.

went out to clean mine & missus's cars at around 07.50 & snow started to come down.
cleaned wifes car & by time i'd cleaned mine, her car was covered again!

we live on a very steep hill & saw many people failing to move up the hill (which is heavily gritted as it's a bus route), snow got thicker & settled very quickly. I faced a commute to Birmingham & took the sensible decision of staying put & as the snow showed no sign of letting up, my wife abandoned any attempt to take our daughter to nursery & herself to work around 08.10 (& it's only a 3 mile round trip for her!).

i've witnessed many people have lots of problems getting up & down the hill this morning, including 1 woman who slid around 1000 metres down the hill, slaloming through several parked cars, before finally hitting a parked car & coming to a halt. She was in 1st Gear!

snow finally stopped around 10.30 & about midday the sun came out & it now looks quite pleasant...

guess it's just a case of watch this space...

main routes should be ok, it's the side / minor roads that will catch you out!

Phil

Geoff, cracking pics by the way!
we've probably received half that amount of snow but the incline cdertainly doesn't help...

Come February it'll be open season on Chavs!
A few well placed 12 bore rounds and we can halve the numbers! Call it chlorinating the local gene pool!

Already spoken to Stick, but I'm gutted to say I'm pulling out of PooBowl this year. Pulled my back on Monday, gave it a couple of days to see if it got better and I'm getting worse if anything. Laid up on the sofa now, was on holiday from work anyway so a double gutter... :(
