Oh, I'm all over this one. Read the rules for Wild Animal very carefully. You'll see that WA's are forced to block any player standing next to them before anyone else on their team moves. Normally not a problem, right?
Well, if you really want to drive a WA coach nuts, you put your big guy right next to him, with another player directly behind your big guy and in no opposing tackle zones. The WA has to throw an even strength block, because he gets no assists. Right there, he's got a 33% chance of ending his turn, a 33% chance of knocking your big guy down, and a 33% chance of getting a pushback. If he gets a pushback, watch out - becauase he's got a two die block with your choice because you set up that assist.
This is pretty good odds on a takedown, and losing an entire turn can be disasterous for a team. It gets even worse if you have to worry about 6 strength treeman or star players. And even a team with 4 strength players can put three of them on you and force you to play the big guy first instead of the ball.

Re: Troll Question
Wild Animal..specifically the forced blocking and must go first aspect. If you're not careful you'll suffer turnovers on the very first action of your turn. A Troll isn't forced to block, and doesn't have to go first. Don't forget that BGs can't use TRR, but can use Leader RR. If you're gonna go the Mino route take Leader somewhere if possible.Hashut wrote:Thanks for all the imput so far, but I have a question. Everybody keeps saying that Minos are a liability early because they don't have block. But neither do Trolls. What is it that makes Minos so much more of a liability than Trolls early on?
I'm of the opinion that WA is fine..but it is painful and will cost you games or TDs until you can get them up to 6 SPPs. Much more effective and playable at that point, but until then they need real careful management.

WA's are actually at their best when they are on their own - you just have to make sure it's in your own backfield. If you put them on the front line guards and big guys can really take advantage of them. They are backfield safties, and I personally beleive that the CD team needs strength up front more to keep the heat off of their best players, the Bull Centaurs.

How do you plan on developing your Chaos Dwarves? If your first skill on all of them is going to be guard, I'd go with the Minotaur since they'll be able to look after themselves. If you look long term and their first skill will all be Mighty Blow, then I'd suggest you go with the Troll, since you will need the help up front.

MINO for CHAOS
I haven't played a full season with my CDs just yet, just one game. I don't even have my BG yet. I will most certainly get the Mino, when I do spring for a Big Guy. Our league plays long seasons ~18-20 games, so in the long run the Mino should become a real asset. However, my biggest reason for getting the Mino is philosophical. We encourage a bit of roleplay in our league, and since this is a CHAOS Dwarf team the added randomness and uncertainty that a Minotaur brings to the game makes it the right choice.

Block, Pro, Guard, Pile On are the main 4 i would think of for singles. Most people would choose different mixes of those.
For doubles i would pick frenzy, leader, or Stand Firm.

For the record: I have a very successfull mino on my CD team: Block and Claws!
As for the Troll development: If you use PIling On as in the current LRB, take it first, if not, Block first then POn, Pro or Guard. Note that I'm a big fan of Multiple Block for Big Guys. The troll especially. That just rips tthrough a line of scrimmage!

A skaven team has enough fast players to keep up with the mino and stop oposing players from lending an assist but a Chaos Dwarf team?
If you have 6 Chaos Dwarfs, 2 Bulls and the Big guy: that only leaves space for 3 Hobo goblins on the field who should:
- help the Mino out
- get the ball
- lends some assist where needed
Belive me its hard enough to perform ok at the 2nd and 3rd task but you cant do all these jobs with only 3 AG 3 players.
Stick with the Troll
