I hate to say this ... but this is really a vote of no confidence for me in many ways.

There are definitely differences between LRB 5.0 and CRP ... they are two different editions. Look at the page ... its say they are using the rules published in 2006 ... that is LRB 5.0. The CRP was published in January 2010 after a lot more testing and rule changes were made.

I am completely clueless WHY you should have the rules be based on a version of the rules that no one has used for the last 10 years when the CRP was a GW official rulebook approved by Jervis Johnson, posted to the GW site for 2 years and used by the Cyanide game.

This is nuts and I'm sorry ... it is not a good sign for what might be coming to me.

Judging by their comments in reply to peoples questions they're going to be releasing the rules soon to be used for this . The biggest strange thing is how they workout the winner , much like there other events , youcould win every game 5-0 and still not win the whole thing.

Mike?
In terms of sanctioning? No one's applied. On that basis I assume we'd offer no guarantee that if you go to this event you'll get the high quality fun filled events that NAF sanctioning represents.

I'm sure we'd love to be able to say that attendance at this event would mean you could include your record in a rankings database with close to 150,000 games recorded across several thousand tournaments; benefit from an army of experienced, knowledgeable volunteers; vie for a highly collectable winner's trophy; and sit down to play with confidence that the rules you play and the treatment you receive will be comparable from event to event. But tournament organisers are free to remain independent if they want, and this one has. Good luck to them.

As it happens, aside from geographical challenges, I had no teams I could attend with - as a converter of teams I don't have any at all that are entirely 100% GW parts. And since they crippled bitz sellers I sadly can't see that changing.

There were some big changes between LRB 5.0 and CRP that I think some players have forgotten (But as the guy that wrote the rules I have not). For example:
1. Wood Elf Catcher in LRB 5.0 had MA 9 and not MA 8 & Sprint
2. Rat Ogres were 160k not 150k
3. Riot lost D6 turns ... not 1
and that is just 3 ... there are more

Nope ... that won't cause any confusion for anyone. Sigh.

And lunchmoney .... the reason I'm sorry ... is I really wanted GW to do this right with turning their light on Blood Bowl. I wanted to say ... okay yes ... it looks like we are in okay hands. But this ... going back to a rulebook that is 3 1/2 years older than the one everyone has been using for the last 6 years ... nope ... nope ... nope.

So ... I guess if you are going and have the GW minis for Wood Elves ... go Wood Elves and grab Sprint on the Catchers since it looks like this is your chance to play with the team back at its LRB 5.0 strength.

OMG!

I think I just figured out why they went back to LRB 5.0 instead of CRP and it is incredibly stupid to me.

CRP was when we added the new star players to round out the teams. Several of those stars never had "official" mins so if they go back to LRB 5.0 ... that edition did not have any star players that did not have minis. If THAT is the reason ... that is one of the most stupid things I will have heard in a very long time. Especially when they are posting on their FB page that players will be encouraged to convert existing GW figures to play in the event. Why would that logic not work on a few new star players???

This is the only reason I can think of and it makes horrible GW style sense to me. Throw out the good rule changes to make the game better between LRB 5.0 and CRP ... just so you can ignore the new star players. I really hate to think it ... but I think I'd bet money that this is why they are doing it. Just so so amazingly blind.

Also ... I forgot Halfling teams were soooo bad in LRB 5.0.
The Treemen both had LONER still in LRB 5.0

Another change. Deathrollers in LRB 5.0 did not have Loner. This is such a mess. Sigh.

I'm not a great GW fan (big surprise) but I think everyone is over-thinking the reasoning behind using LRB5. Knowing how limited the inter-department contact was for events the people behind the tournament have probably no-one that's played BB in years, and they're just referencing the rules they last used (probably dug out some old rule pack).

Has anyone bothered to contact them to point out there was an official newer version of the rules?

Yes it was brought out to them on the forums and they said they picked LRB 5.0 on purpose. But we don't know what that was.

This sounds likely to me - that this is an event run by the Warhammer World team with no input from the new SG department. Probably just an ass clown WW bod who wants to use the rules he used the last time he played BB a decade ago.

Actually Simon and Joe's suggestion that this is just laziness on the part of WW to not update the rules pack they had from the last event which was LRB 5.0 ... that actually now is leading for me for what is going on. But man ... I didn't think that way because I've never been that lazy in my life.
