Re: Your favourite league format...

The ABBL does an open/challenge format with these rules. We transitioned to this format over 5 year ago to avoid the phantom coach problems that exist in fixed schedule leagues.

We meet once a week at a local game shop, but you can play whenever wherever you like.

Seasons are roughly 15 weeks long and about 3 seasons a year, followed by a bracket style playoff with each coach taking one qualified team, with "play in or wild card" rounds as needed for the lower ranked teams (To get down to 4 or 8 teams).

Any TV is allowed, but we tried to avoid bad match ups for Rookie coaches, most experienced coaches keep a Rookie or low TV team around for this purpose. Once they get in several games in and show some skill, the gloves come off.....

Additional Inducements - You can take the following inducements in addition to the standard inducements:
• Cheerleader 20K per (3 max)
• Assistant Coaches 20k per (3 max)

Playoffs Qualification - A coach may play as many teams as he chooses during the regular season but may only take one team to the playoffs. The team has to have played a minimum of 4 games in that season and a maximum of 10 games in that season to qualify for the playoffs. Only games played after a team is out of the previous seasons playoffs count towards this number, those played before are just more experience for the team.

Regular Season Over Time - In regular season league games both coaches must agree to an over time, otherwise the game ends in a Draw. Only one sudden death period is played, if there is no winner by the end of that period the game ends in a Draw.

Multiple Same Team Match Ups – Two Coaches cannot play the same two team in consecutive games during the regular season. No one team can play the same team more than twice in the course of a single regular season.

End of Regular Season – All games much be completed by midnight on the last day of the season to count for playoff seeing.

Playoff Inducements - There are no Star Player allowed to be induced for playoff games, all other inducements are allowed.

Playoff Seeding - Teams gain the following points during a single season for playoff seeding:
5 Pts = Win
3 Pts = Draw
1 Pt = Loss
